You should also call 2-1-1 and possibly JAFCO

I'm using. Ucp...not thrilled ...arc is almost an hour from our home...but I use them for camp and respite. I will try ymca. Thanks! Have not tried that one. It seems if you live northeast there are less resources....thank you. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

Where in the world do I do with my child in the afternoon if I have to work??? He goes to norcrest elem. But they cannot accomodate him so he is bused to bright horizons in the united cerebral palsy program. Kids from 5-22 in the same class , all exceptionalites and quite upsetting and chaotic for my child. Does anyone know of any alternatives? What do working parents in broward do with their autistic children? I get a call every other day or so to get my child early because he is crying at aftercare. I would love some direction on this...thanks!!!

I am saddened that the home schools that have the clusters do not accommodate our kids. Its horrible and traumatic to bus our kids to other sites...there are more and more kids being diagnosed w autism and more and more clusters popping up. What does the school system expect for parents to do??? Most of us spend every last cent on services and do not have the luxury of a private babysitter. This seems like a huge problem. I was appalled that at the UCP they had all exceptionalites and all ages up to 22 ys old in the SAME class...no wonder my 9 year old is stressed out and crying. I would be too!!!!!Sent via BlackBerry from T-MobileSender: sList Date: Wed, 20 Oct 2010 11:20:18 -0400To: sList <sList >ReplyTo: sList Subject: Re: Aftercare ARC is full and I did not like the Y for two of my kids on the spectrum.Sent from my iPhone Call ARC Broward or YMCA or UCP Robin Where in the world do I do with my child in the afternoon if I have to work??? We do accept applications for our wait list and as soon as there is an opening, we enroll from the wait list..(so it is important to apply). Please refer to the list of providers funded by Children's Services Council (CSC) for out of school time programs (after care, non-school days and summer) on the CSC website (www.cscbroward.org) under funded programs...MOST. Also try contacting 211 for a list of providers...there are many...good luck!!! If we can help in any way, please contact us!

Hi all!at the Victory Center we have a good aftercare that is funded, for Dade kids from children's trust. Kids from Broward are welcome but pay more. I don't know if there are openings but you could email the Educational Director, Dr. Anja Kroell at akroell@... judi nelsonSent via BlackBerry from T-MobileSender: sList Date: Wed, 20 Oct 2010 09:46:43 -0700 (PDT)To: <deniseslist >ReplyTo: sList Subject: Aftercare Hi all, Fabiola makes a good point, that there is a definite need in the community that should be addressed. And the need is only going to grow, because in years past many of the kids were on medwaiver and had PCAs who picked them up from school, which will not be the case for the vast majority of the younger kids for whom there is no medwaiver. Also regarding the Y, they have different programs, staff, etc., in different places, we weren't happy at one location but we were in another, so it's worth trying. ----- Forwarded Message ----To: sList Sent: Wed, October 20, 2010 11:34:01 AMSubject: Re: Aftercare Good Morning, I am fortunate that ASP at Fox Trail offers an aftercare that is able to have my son till I come and pick him up, I like the person who coordinates it and they have been very caring with him and the the ASP team at FOX trail is just great. Until I found this one I really didn't like any other aftercare. I think it is important to be aware that this is a need in the community, as for example I already tried YMCA for special needs and didn't really like it much. UCP was full and ARC too far away. I think we should encourage or envision a chld care program that could help us with after care, thinking about all of the ones that need it and didn't find one yet, and also one that is on a sliding scale, so any parent could apply. I have been thinking about this for long already. Just a thought.
