And the need is only going to grow, because in years past many of the kids were on medwaiver and had PCAs who picked them up from school, which will not be the case for the vast majority of the younger kids for whom there is no medwaiver. Until I found this one I really didn't like any other aftercare. I think it is important to be aware that this is a need in the community, as for example I already tried YMCA for special needs and didn't really like it much. UCP was full and ARC too far away. I think we should encourage or envision a chld care program that could help us with after care, thinking about all of the ones that need it and didn't find one yet, and also one that is on a sliding scale, so any parent could apply. I have been thinking about this for long already. Just a thought. Kids from 5-22 in the same class , all exceptionalites and quite upsetting and chaotic for my child. Does anyone know of any alternatives? What do working parents in broward do with their autistic children? I get a call every other day or so to get my child early because he is crying at aftercare.
