Hi ,

Thanks for your support. I did cancel my block out of fear. This pain mgt. dr. has not even looked at the area. He just asked me a few questions. My pain level has been quite high this week. It's not getting any better, I'm afraid. So I may reschedule the appt. --esp. if your block works successfully for you. Where was the site of your injection? Was it very sore after the anesthetic wore off? His nurse said I there would be no numbness in the vulva area and the steroid would kick in after 3-7 days. Did a pain dr. do it or your PN specialist?

The pain was less severe the first time it went away on its own. I stayed in bed and used lots of aquaphor ointment. I didn't even have to take pain meds. Just rest and a low oxalate diet and drinking tons of water. Today I had to take a vicodin and it barely did anything. Maybe something else is going on. I have no infection and the area looks 'normal', according to my gyn. It's a burning, stinging pain. Is that what yours is like? It was good to hear from you. I am despondent.

Just wondering if you decided to go ahead with your block tomorrow. I'm sure you have read that I got the pudendal nerve block a week ago and i'm still waiting for it to kick in (i'm praying it does and that it helps me).

As far as it affecting the clitoral area, i'm not too familiar with the particular kind of block you are getting, but i am thinking that maybe your doctor meant the block would work as far as to the nerve endings in the clitoral area. I too was concerned that the block would end up causing problems where I don't have problems (the rest of the vulvar area as my pain is only clitoral) but so far have not had any and my PN doctor didn't think it would cause any problems- certainly the block "affected" my vulvar area- I was completely numb there for 2 days, so i am wondering if that was what he meant by it could affect it....?

The fact that you have gotten better 2 other times is certainly a very good sign. Hang in there and know that you did it once, you can do it again. Did you notice anything in particular that you did the other times that seemed to help make it go away?

I'm debating whether to go ahead with my nerve block on Wed. It's not forPN, but rather the nerve on top, the genitofemoral nerve. But the kicker ishe will do it one one side only. He doesn't want to do two sides at thesame time. How does this sound to everyone? The injection will go into mylower back area. I asked him if the clitoral area will be affected and hesaid it could be. I have no pain there, so I want it left alone. The gabapentin I take does nothing for the burning pain. I've never takenelavil and don't want to. Stress affects it adversely and I tend to beuptight. I take zanax for anxiety. He's never done an injection for painin this area before. And he's not putting pressure on me, but it seems likehe really wants to help. Having one side numb and one side left alone, seems a lttle bizarre to me. And then he won't see me for 2 weeks. I'mshaky writing this all down. It's ggone away on its own twice before, butthis time it's lasted longer (6 months). I'm so ambivalent.
