Guest guest
Being swollen, especially in the abdomen and legs is often ascites. The fluid accumulates and is very uncomfortable. Mine was treated with "water" pills, there are several kinds and I can't remember any of the names now. My belly was also drained several times. Once they were able to take out 5 liters of fluid. When I walked in, my pants were tight. When I walked out, my pants were falling down. It was like having a baby, but only took about an hour. Of coarse this is a temporary solution as the fluid will accumulate again, but going on salt restriction does help. With all that water weight in the abdomen, the muscles of the back are likely to be very stressed. Itching has been addressed frequently at this sight and you can look in the archives for info. It is difficult for a care giver to understand the ITCH. It is as bad as chronic pain and needs to be addressed. There are meds that can treat it and UV/B light treatments that help some. I think it is important to find a way to scratch without tearing up the skin. I like a stiff shower brush with a long handle. You can reach everywhere and it shouldn't damage skin. Some of us have had to really demand that the itch gets treated, so don't leave the dr.'s office without a prescription.
