Guest guest
You said in another post that 5 ERCPs is just passing amateur level..LOL.. so what is considered professional level ? My son has had 13 ERCPS and is 10 years old ? Is he a pro ? <wink> He's an old pro at surgeries and procedures- has been having them since he was 6 days old- and is getting rich from 'bribe payments'- so I guess that alone makes him a pro-and me broke This is actually a serious question next- Any thoughts on what is the most # of ERCPs for treatment of obstructing stones and sludge/strictures/stenting can be done before it is doing 'more harm than good' ? My son has had two sphincterotomies with 'huge cuts' because doing a roux en y was not an option for him. He has absolutely no 'spare' small intestines- he had 3/4 of it removed when he was an infant. He had a series of stents placed @ every 6 weeks for a year due to recurrent stones obstructing his CBD. He had already had his glabladder removed several years beforehand but still had recurrent episodes of stones due to strictures. His first HUGE stone obstructing his CBD was at the age of 4 3/4. Then his symptoms were ignored for several years - NOT for a lack of trying on my part !!!!! he was again found to have a huge stone obstructing his CBD at age 7. After a year of stent replacements the GI did a second huge cut opening cut in his sphinctor of oddi for bile flow. Since he is 'wide open' to bacteria getting into the liver-and is missing his ileocecal valve and has chronic small bowel bacterial overgrowth from colonic bacteria backing up on him- he is on daily antibiotics. We've been told that the frequent ERCPs did more harm than good as did the huge sphincterotomies. A specialist he saw thought he needed an external drain but the GI didn't agree. So I am having a hard time knowing what to do with the " more harm than good " statement but no guidance on how to help him now that it's been done statements from the drs he currently sees KWIM ?
