Guest guest
Jon, If you look back through the post prior to this past November, You will find that I posted about my husband's ascites almost constantly. He was in and out of the hospital with ascites problems almost every other week right before getting the call. As a matter of fact he was in the local hospital when the tx center called us. His doctor tried everything. He was taking above the max on Lasix 160mg twice a day. Aldactone (I'm not sure of the dosage) and he was tried on other diaretics as well. All of which caused electrolyte problems. His GI preferred to put him in the hospital and give him Albumin and Lasix to remove the fluid, but he was also taped several times. The problem he had was that he had had a previous J pouch surgery that caused scar tissue and he had to have ultrasound guided periocetisis (sp?). He also had a hernia. also had " fat clothes " and " skinny clothes " as we liked to call them even though he was mostly skin and bones everywhere except is stomach. He wore anywhere from a 36 waist to a 40 at his worse ascites. Now the good news, he is two months post transplant and no ascites and he has settled at a comfortable 38 waist with a belt. His surgeon repaired the hernia during the transplant. I was so excited that he had a normal belly button for a while, but some fluid post transplant caused it to pop back out again. Hang in there. It gets better! wife of PSC/UC 2000 J pouch 2004 tx November 18, 2006

Guest guest
Isn't that encouraging?!! I just have a feeling that, by Fall, all that you're going through now will seem like it was a bad dream. I wish you were journaling the thoughts and insights and feelings you are experiencing during this time. I think they would help you later on. >>> mry_peace@... 01/21/07 09:04PM >>> Jon, If you look back through the post prior to this past November, You will find that I posted about my husband's ascites almost constantly.
