Guest guest
hi everyone, i joined this group many months ago when i first started doing research because i was pretty sure that eventually my daughter would end up with a band for her " flat head " . well, on July 5th she finally got it! her name is Aria and she's about 8 and a half months old now. we noticed her " flat spot " as early as her 2 month well visit and it only got worse. she really prefers being on her back and for a long time slept with her head to the right, so not only is the back flat all over but it's slanted, being flatter on the right (i can't remember all the medical terms for everything - you know what i mean!). anyway, we live in Charlotte, NC and Cranial Tech did her band (not sure if any other companies even exist for this!). so we're only in the first few days. she doesn't seem too terribly bothered by it, but since we live in a hot, humid area, her head gets sweaty quite often. they said that eventually her body will " adjust " to the band and she won't get so sweaty so easily... anyone else experience this and about how long did it take for the sweating to decrease? i hate that she is so hot in it, especially when we have to go out in the heat. for those worried about how to pay for your child's band - i want to pass on some info. the health insurance we have for her wouldn't pay ANY of the cost of a band, they have already ruled out the whole category (durable medical equipment). so, the patient coordinator at our Cranial Tech office recommended i apply for a medical grant through the UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation - and it was approved! they are paying for the whole thing, which is awesome. we could have worked something out i'm sure, but we didn't have the ability to just write a check for $3,000. anyway, although it is income-based, their limits must not be too low because i applied when both of us were working so we were making decent money. here is a link if you're interested: http://uhcchildrensfoundation.org/ the only thing is, if you've already got a band, unfortunately it's too late. you have to get the grant approved by them BEFORE you start any treatment. so, if you've been for an initial consultation it's ok, but if you have already done the molding or fittings, i don't think you will qualify. ok, this is getting way too long - just wanted to introduce us and get some tips. i'm looking online also for some ideas on decorating her band. her dad is pretty creative so i'm sure he could do something nice on there, but needs some inspiration first. Guest guest
Congratulations on getting the band. I'm glad that she is adjusting well to it. My son's sweating took about a week and amazingly enough he did start sweating less. Thanks for sharing the info on the uhc children's foundation. Keep us posted on your daugter's progress.
