Guest guest
Barb: I thought it was a fair piece, but they gave way too much face time to the old fart doctor from Duke University, who dismissed the whole thing. But, if I was pregnant or had an infant (and had no other knowlege of autism or this whole vaccine issue) and saw that piece, I would be freaked out enough to demand that my kid got them split up. I loved how they showed the 3 SEPARATE vials (M, M, and R) right there on the screen. This is gonna piss off a lot of Ped's when they start getting demands for this. From a PR standpoint, Andy Wakefield looked like the informed, young researcher who just may be on the cutting edge with something, whereas the old doc came off as tired, old-fashioned, and condescending. I would love to see a slight dip in Merck's stock price tomorrow, but they make so much damned $$ I doubt that'll happen. I think this piece may at least light a fire in the media, and the articles questioning vaccines (like the one in today's Record and one in a newspaper in Tucson, AZ) just keep coming. That doctor from Duke University's e-mail box should be jammed with negative parent mail by about midnight.
