Guest guest
My mother in law refers to the time when she gave birth ('68 & '71) as "the dark ages". It was certainly WHACK from the way she has described things. They waited until her first baby's head was crowning, gave her a whiff of "twilight sleep" then delivered by forceps....is that CRAZY or what???? I mean, by that time she had already suffered the most of the pain. That lovely delivery left her with a tear all the way to the rectum! When my MIL needed to be checked for how far she had progressed during labor, the nurse waited until the height of a "contraction" then checked her rectally...NUTS!!! I think Becky mentioned her friend being sewed up and FEELING it. Same thing happened to my MIL after she had my husband. She said she literally FELT every stitch! When my doc was sewing my first episiotomy I felt the very last stitch, I let him know and he said that was it! But he did numb me first, though. I only 'know' one person who made it through childbirth with no episiotomy and no tear! ~Chelle

Guest guest
I had the episiotomy with my first two but with none of the last four. Oh, joy! No stitches to deal afterwards. I don't remember the pain of the cutting with the second one, maybe because the doctor told me ahead of time that he had to do it. Or maybe he used something to numb me. Yes, I had six children. I had an epidural with the last one. They do the rectal check to prevent infection. My labors were long and constantly checking rectally made me very sore down there. Guest guest
My sister refused to let them circumsize her son. HE's had no problems whatsoever. About half of little boys now are not being circumsized because it's b eginning to be recognized as unnecessary and painful and traumatic. Guest guest
My sister used a midwife in a hospital to give birth. There was very little " checking " as the midwife said it was unnecessary, can cause infection, and causes stress for the mom.
