Hi , I'm in Virginia and I can buy strips, lancets, meters over the counter. I thank God that I have insurance. If I did not have insurance, I would do a lot of price comparison for strips. Even though I do have insurance, I wanted to change meters, so I waited until Walgreen's had the Accu-Chek compact free after rebate. I got the meter and 17 strips free, except for the postage to send in the rebate. The next time they had this offer, I got another one. Even with insurance, when our insurance changed last fall, I called to find out the price of strips. If the strips for the Accu-Chek had cost more than other strips, I probably would have changed meters again. hugs Eunice
