Beth, I would really be interested to hear how things go for you. I have lower lumbar scoliosis and I am convinced that it is a big factor in my bladder issues (along with hormones - which I am already using). You could always consider 'trying' treatment for awhile to see if it helps anything - we won't know if we don't try. However, if she does any internal PT and you feel more comfortable going slowly or asking her to use lube...I would speak up. Always keep in mind it's your body and you have the 'right' to voice your choices. Heck, for any type of vaginal exams, I always bring my own lube. That way I don't risk irritation. I wish you the best.... Hugs, Chelle

Beth,

Vulvodynia (to me anyway) doesn't mean anything. It's just a label

given to a set of symptoms. It doesn't tell us the root of the problem

or what to do about it. PT does! I had weekly PT for 9 months and it

helped more than anything. I can have pain free sex most of the time

now and I'm pregnant! I still go 2x a month for maintenance.

Chelle and Melina-

First off, I appreciate the interest, Chelle! (did you get my e-mail?)

And believe me, I am so over letting doctors boss me around and tell

me what i need to do with my body without letting me have a say-my new

physical therapist, for one, actually told me to not look at websites

to learn more about my condition! but i don't think she believes

vulvodynia is a real condition-one of those people *rolls eyes* As a

result, I'm like, uber-backbone with this chick. Seriously, aside

from college, having a pain disorder has given me the most

self-confidence I have ever had in my life-always a silver lining, I

suppose!

And Melina, CONGRATULATIONS!! When are you due?? Do you know what

you're having?? Ohh, that's so exciting! (once i'm done with

college, i'm planning to become a doula, so anytime anyone becomes

pregnant i'm super-excited..even more so when it's someone in our

position! high-five!). hehe, but newho. i agree, vulvodynia is

really just a label, and i'm sure my scoliosis is causing a lot of it,

but i can't believe it's the whole story, ya know? i didn't really

get super-into my bellydancing until after my diagnosis, and that's

apparently why i'm so " stuck " muscularly in my hips (first, bellydance

is good for me. then, it's bad for me. i swear, it's nuts!).

everyone-

but anyway. i think part of why i was so offended by her suggestion

was that it felt like she trying to take away some of my 'identity'.

I absolutely have a pain disorder to some extent, and to tell me to

ignore my diagnosis is telling me to ignore this support group, and

change how I acknowledge my pain. And it really feels like, without a

community of people who understand, I'm alone, so don't try to take

them away from me, ya know? Lol, i'm a psych major, i should know

what that's called ;)

newho. thanks ladies for the support and acknowledgment! i really

don't know what i'd do without you all :)

Beth,

I'm sorry that this lady made you feel as she did just like some

of the doctors. Some in the profession of Medicine are not

comfortable with the fact that patients have the right to

educate themselves so that they get a better understanding of

what is going on with themselves.

Because of my own illnesses (vulvodynia is just one of them) I

have had to learn not only how to not be afraid of doctors but

also t stand up to them when necessary.

Glad you are part of the group and hope you can get some answers

soon. Feel free to e-mail me off list any time if you would

like to talk one on one.

Kristy :)

Beth-I do lots of belly dance, too. I had to be careful about overdoing it, but I "hear" you-first something's good for yout hen it's not. First something works then it doesn't. Hang in there! Lindsey
