Lidocaine recommendation (for sensitive types)

Hey there! Figured I'd provide my first useful tidbit of information, since all

I've been

doing till now is asking questions.

I had trouble with the lidocaine gel my gynecologist provided me--it burned and

stung

like crazy when I put it on, and the burning wouldn't go away for several hours,

meaning

that by the time the burning had stopped and I could try to have sex, the

numbing effect

had gone away. Whoopee (or lack thereof). I used several different kinds of

lidocaine

(each a version of " LMX " ) with decreasing amounts of alcohol in the solution,

since that

seemed to be causing the problem. No difference, it all burned, and some of it

caused

swelling.

Finally, I went to a prescription compounding center, and they made me a gel of

lidocaine

in aloe vera as a base. It still doesn't take away enough of the pain to have

intercourse (I

haven't been receiving any treatment aside from lidocaine, since I'm waiting on

my

appointment with a specialist in November, so hopefully this will improve

further), but it

did significantly reduce the pain, and NO STINGING OR BURNING FROM THE GEL

ITSELF!

So, if anyone else out there has had trouble with lidocaine being, um,

completely useless

due to the extra stinging, try this. The compounding center also made me a

solution of

lidocaine and KY, which I haven't tried yet (since KY has small amounts of

alcohol, as well),

but that's another idea if the aloe vera doesn't help.

Good luck, and I hope I've helped someone!
