Guest guest
Vera, I'm not sure what Mirapex is. Comtan is supposed to boost the effects of sinemet, as I understand it. For me, it lessens the severity of leg spasms but not even that entirely. Barbara

Guest guest
Vera, Comtan is a COMT inhibitor and I think Mirapex is a dopamine agonist, so they work in different ways. Comtan helps the L-dopa get into the system faster and Mirapex tends to keep it in the system longer. Comtan does no good unless taken with Sinemet where Mirapex can help by itself. I think ) My PD site is not working tonight. Hugs Bill I got hugs from Terri and Grammy Rose today, and was there too. -------------------------------------- FVJAMES@... wrote: > Is comtan ,something like mirapex or would it be different? > > Thanks > Vera > > If you do not wish to belong to shydrager, you may > unsubscribe by sending a blank email to > > shydrager-unsubscribe > > > >
Guest guest
We were told that Comtan would extend the effects of Sinemet and cut down on Ken's off time when he became very rigid. he was taking Sinemet CR which had helped that some, but he still had a lot of rigidity. Whenever we tried to give him more Sinemet to help with this, he would become more disoriented and his BP would fall even faster. he had a top amount of Sinemet he could tolerate of about 600 mg per day spread out. He was on this amount for over 15 years, and he really needed more. The Comtan didn't seem to have the side effects that extra Sinemet had. He tried Mirapex also, but the side effects were even worse than more Sinemet. We knew the Comtan was helpful when Ken got up from his chair on one bounce and walked alone across the room and fell and cut his forehead! Prior to that he had been unable to get up without bouncing three or four times giving one of us time to get to him and stand beside him when he walked. We considered this particular fall evidence that Comtan was working well! Also, Tasmar is like Comtan but works better for some. The problem is that you must have frequent blood tests of liver function if you are taking Tasmar because some have died from liver troubles with Tasmar. This might be a risk worth taking to gain more mobility. I know several people who take Tasmar and think the risk is worth it.
