Guest guest
: Can you give me the name of the private evaluator you used or any others that would be of help. As I have read, all of our children including Evan seem to progress more rapidly if they have a home program as well as private/public school during the day. I do not want this progress to stop! My argument to the school system is that they do not have the appropriate class/classroom for Evan therefore we must keep him in the private day care with an ABA shadow/aide, (which is also appropriate and wonderful idea). If they did have an appropriate classroom though, I would not need to pay for day care and that money would be used, of course, for home ABA and other therapies (approximately $550.00 a month). Therefore, I believe they should pay for the home therapies as well as it is appropriate and in the best interest of Evan because of the tremendous progress he has made. Thanks to everyone else for their input!
Guest guest
Debby, If your son is over three, I don't think you need to be paying over $500/month for daycare just because there is no appropriate school placement. It is up to the district to find proper placement or pay for another alternative. I don't know your son's diagnosis, but for PDD/Autism I'm pretty sure it's standard practice for kids to get a full day of public education. That amounts to 5 1/2 to 6 hours at least. I met a mom in the Palisasde mall several weeks ago who lives in Stony Point NY. She told me that her son goes to Prime Time day care and gets ABA there , all paid for by the school district. By chance the following week I ran into the owner of Prime Time at the Woodcliff Lake town hall. We started talking and he told me that his wife has many years experience in working with typical and disabled children and that their centers are very accomodating to children with disabilities. Her name is Ricci Wasserman and her phone # is . He said she is happy to talk to parents without pressure to enroll at their center. Please do not take this as an endorsement of Prime Time. I have no personal experience with them and their program. I do not know anyone else who has sent a child there. But some day care programs are set up like preschools and this may be another option to present to your child study team if proper supports are in place. Although this other mom is from a different state, it is good to know that other school districts are working with parents and are willing to be flexible and creative.
