Guest guest
Joan- Dr. Holahan spends at least an hour with the child doing some testing and of course interviewing the parent. It is an entirely different exam then what one would experience in a neurologist's office. I would insist that your district provide this kind of eval over the neurologist. My district does accept (as do many others was the impression I got from Jim Ball at Sawtelle at 's IEP) the dev. pediatrician instead of a neurologist. (And I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Holahan isn't a neurologist anyway - I think I heard he was.) Unfortunately you will have to wait a number of months to get in there. I wouldn't expect to get an appt till autumn. I would also demand an independent eval from an education specialist paid for by the school district. I was at an IEP seminar by the Arc/Herb Hinkle's office last year and I remember them saying that this is often done. Once again I recommend that you get an advocate to help advise you of Jen's rights. I think Joy Goodman's / the Arc's fee is on a sliding scale according to income so you might find this extra cost quite reasonable. Best of luck, Barb
Guest guest
We have seen other dev. Peds and a psychologist at Hackensack & they did not diagnose her on the spectrum. BTW Joan, Hackensack ICD did not diagnose as autistic either. Barb
