Guest guest
Good luck with the process, I am unsure of your location but would try to go to Cranial Technologies if an office is within a drive away. We traveled 2 hours to get to ours and were very happy, the other offices and products just seem infereor to me. My son was 4 months when we banded so I am not so sure about older children but alot of mothers here have experience with this. They will be wonderful resources. I would just try to go to a Cranial Technology office and wherever you wind up make sure you ask for references and see only the most experenced senior orthotist. This can make a big difference. When they do 200 heads a year versus 50 heads this is a no brainer to me. Good luck. Tammy From: littlefly3015 <littlefly3015@...>Subject: fitting our newly adopted 13m old w/a helmetPlagiocephaly Date: Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 11:20 PM We just brought our newly adopted son home from Guatemala about 5 wks ago. I have been concerned about the shape of his head and after seeing enough drs, we ended up at the orthodic place today. After doing all the measurements, she said he was a 1/2" off. It's not terribly noticeable from the front but from other angles you can definately tell. It's flatter on the left front and right rear sides of his head. His head is better than it was when we were there to visit last August and September. And it's of course doubtful that it will improve any more w/o help. The orthodic people suggested we come to this group for answers to some of our questions. Has anyone else fitted their child around this age? What kind of results did you get? We have two other boys, but I've never had any experience w/this before. So I'm really feeling kind of lost....thanks for your help! Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
A lot of times it depends upon your insurance coverage. We have Kaiser in N. California and we had to go through a specialist (plastic surgeon)to get the band prescription. However, the band companies usually don't care who the prescription comes from, you just need to have one. So, if your paediatrician will write it you should be fine. The benefit I did see from going to a specialist was he was able to rule out craniosyntosis and he also ordered a CT scan to confirm it. I had assumed we would be referred to a neurosurgeon but were not. This pediatrician (he is not our regular pediatrician) did tell us that if we do go through w/this to come back and see him so he can do a head xray. Thanks! ------------------------------------ For more plagio info
