Question on Red Spots

Hi all, My son got his band yesterday morning and has been doing really great with it. I took it off him every 3 to 4 hours yesterday to check the red spots. He had two, one above one of his eyes and one under one of the sideburns of the band which went away within an hour. He slept in it last night and did well, only waking up a few extra times to adjust his position. My question, this morning he woke up with a big red mark above one of his eyes and his eye was squashed a little. He was lying on his stomach and had his head down on the side with the red mark so I'm assuming the band was just digging in since he was lying on that side. The red mark did not go away after an hour but it did fade. Anyone else have this happen after their baby sleeps ? Thanks, Sybil

Hi Sybil-

My son also had a small red spot above his eye, right on the peak of

his forehead bossing. I would say it was probably smaller than the

size of a dime. That is obviously where the band was tightest to

keep his forehead from growing out anymore. The therapist at CT said

that as long as it did fade within the hour, and didn't get any

worse, that it was fine (I called him on a Friday afternoon to see

if it was okay to wear through the weekend, and he said it was

fine). My son also experienced redness at his sideburns, but the

therapist said that it was only heat rash, because there are no

pressure points at the sideburns (assuming it fits him well and

isn't digging into his cheek). So he said not to worry that at all

and the heat rash does seem to disappear pretty quickly once the

band is removed.

Since it's your second day with it, I would continue to check that

red spot for at least one more 3-4 hour rotation. See if it lessens

(my son's would be less red and smaller each time I checked it, even

though it didn't completely disappear after an hour). Definitely

call CT with questions, I guess all therapists could be different

and yours might want you to come in for an adjustment.

Oh, and my son looks smushed in the morning too, since sleeps on his

tummy, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. But if during the

day, it smashing his eye down, that might need an adjustment too.

Good luck!

Thanks , I called CT and they answered all my questions. They said in the morning sometimes it gets more red and smashed like you were saying. His red spots do go away within an hour, just this morning it was really red because my son also sleeps on his stomach and it really was really read and smushing his eye when he got up. It does rest a little low over his one eye making him look like popeye sometimes so the technician said to come in on Friday instead of Monday to get it adjusted. I will keep my eye on it to make sure it doesn't get worse. Thanks for your input. My son gets a lot of red spots on his forehead that my orthotist says

is not related to the helmet being too tight or needing adjusting...she

thinks it is because my son also likes to sleep head down!
