Guest guest
If we want a complete thyroid/adrenal panel what is the works? Let's say I can give my doctor a shopping list of tests and get what I want and have never been tested for anything yet suspect hypo and AF. TSH, free T3, free T4, antibody tests.... what are these called specifically? Aldosterone. DHEAS. ACTH stim test. Is this stim test the definitive test for adrenal insufficiency? Thanks!! -AG
Guest guest
The ACTH is usually definitive for true adrenal insufficiency but NOT for adrenal fatigue or exhaustion. Need complete list of thyroid/adrenal tests to ask for If we want a complete thyroid/adrenal panel what is the works? Guest guest
My ACTH didn't show mine but my blood cortisol actually did so I don't really think there are set rules on that and doctors don't always do the tests properly or know how to interpret the results. If they did, I would have gotten my diagnosis 6 years earlier. Guest guest
>>If we want a complete thyroid/adrenal panel what is the works? Let's say I can give my doctor a shopping list of tests and get what I want and have never been tested for anything yet suspect hypo and AF. -AG>> This is from Bill Kingsbury, who sometimes posts here: Many people who need HC will test low-normal for blood cortisol. Most doctors think low normal is 'normal'. In that case, you will need to ask for, and insist upon doing a test to diagnose 'low adrenal reserve' -- either the 'overnight metyrapone test' (done at home, using a special prescription medication) -- or the 'insulin challenge test' (only done in a clinic/hospital bed). Nothing dishonest about it. Those are usually the only tests that an endocrinologist will believe. Most doctors don't do these two tests; only certain endocrinologists do (call ahead and ask). If you fail either of these tests, they will probably prescribe Prednisone, about 5 mg daily -- not hydrocortisone, because endocrinologists rarely prescribe that, though you can ask. These tests are not for 's, they are for 'subacute adrenal insufficiency - with low adrenal reserve'.
Guest guest
Thanks to all of you for responding to my post. It's most appreciated. Cheri, or others, do you know the exact name of the antibody tests one would ask for? -AG Cheri.... nice inclusive list for me. xoe > This is the list I gave my doctor.
