Guest guest
I have had a " fungized toenail " on my left big toe for about at least 6 years now (maybe over a decade) - it has NEVER spread beyond that toe, and for the longest time didn't even seem to progress (and seemed to be confined to the OUTER part of the nail, not the inner part). It seemed to start to progress ('sheets' would start to come off the top of the nail) sometime after I cam down with Type 1 - probably because my immune system went wacko - I think toenail fungus is naturally controlled by some regulatory mechanism similar to what keeps autoimmunity from happening.. Since I started weaning off IsoCort, it seems to be getting worse - seemingly even worse than it was BEFORE I started IsoCort (perhaps it wasn't enough, and my adreanals are now a bit weaker). I assume this is because of some immune process that cortisol helps maintain. Is there any danger is continuing the wean (it will proabbly be another 3-4 weeks until I can do the saliva test) of letting the Candia or whatever it is get out of hand and make even more problems for me in the future, or would the presence of the fungus (given that I don't know exactly what it is) screw up the cortisol readings? I would like to get the wean done and find out what my levels are - as Val said that too little support can make the adrenals get worse? Any suggetions about what to do about the toenail? I tried tee tree oil on the nail and as far into the nailbed as I could get it for about four months - it might have done someting. I read another post in the archives that said you're supposed to put the oil into water and drink it to clear the gut to deal with toenail problems - assuming it is systemic or partially-systemic Candida. But having been seeminly so stable for so long, that I'd think if it was systemic Candida, it would have wreaked much more havoc on my system long before now.. I have had a very small (~ 2-3 mm suare) skin infection right at the skin around the nail which I think probably was caused by the same fungus - the doctor of course just treated it with an antibiotic (cephalexin/Keflex) and bacitracin. Didn't seem at all concerned about the fungus itself - presumably the cause.. (typical doctor) Dr. B. says in his book that the treatment they *used* to use was called tinture of Fungoid, but that of could the nail had to be filed down by a podiatrist so that you could get to the nailbed. But that you can't seem to *find* tincture of Fungoid anymore.. Another thing I read said that the fungus can't grow in an acidic pH, which is why the recommendation of vinegar seems to sort of work, and perhaps part of why tea tree oil as well. I do eat yogurt (Mountain High, full fat) every day (I need to start making my own kefir too). Should I add a probiotic to keep up the gut bacteria, and avoid/consume inulin/FOS (I've heard things on both sides of that issue)?
