Guest guest
I am a first time mommy and know it is important for my 5 month old daughter to have tummy time but she HATES it. She has always disliked being on her tummy. Now that she is able to sit up on her own she does not even want to be on her back unless she is sleeping. Cranial Technologies and her doctor keep saying that she will get used to being on her tummy and to keep increasing the time each day. My problem is after about two mins of being on her tummy she starts to scream (15 mins is the longest she has ever doe at a time). It starts off as a cry and I try and try to keep her entertained but it soon turns into a scream. My question is what am I doing wrong? Should I let her scream and stay on her tummy longer. I have tried all sorts of toys, mirrors etc. I am afraid she will never learn to crawl and she has only rolled over once. Thanks, Kim
Guest guest
I hear ya! My little ones (I have b/g twins) hated it too, and I was skeptical when the doc told me to just keep increasing the time. They would always cry within 1 or 2 minutes. But I just did those 1 or 2 minutes as many times a day as I could, and it's true that they did gradually increase the length of time that they will tolerate. Now, I won't say that they *like* it, but they'll consistently go 5-10 minutes, and I just do that a couple of times a day, distracting them with their favorite toys. Good luck!! -Pam On 1/7/08, Kimmy <kimmydd@...> wrote: I am a first time mommy and know it is important for my 5 month old daughter to have tummy time but she HATES it. Guest guest
You are not doing anything wrong my dear. My daughter is the same way and has never liked it. She is 1year old...has not crawled and is not walking either. She does walk with support but is not able to pull herself up from laying to sitting and from sitting to standing. I know she hates it but please do the best you can to have that tummy time! I did not enforce it and I think that has something to do with the dev delays. Yours is young and you have time to correct it. Trying laying on the floor with her to see if that makes a difference. You might have to be tough and let her cry...tough love! > > I am a first time mommy and know it is important for my 5 month old daughter to have > tummy time but she HATES it. Guest guest
We battled tummy time also since my daughter had acid reflux in addition to her torticollis A few things that really helped us get over that I HATE THIS feeling. (1) Try putting her on the bed and you get on the floor so you are eye to eye; (2) A exercise ball was our lifesaver. It's easier on their tummies and more comfortable. This really was my favorite. If you look up on the internet tummy time exercises with the exercise ball you will get some ideas; (3)Lamaze Spin and Explore Garden Gym. This is something a little different and it makes tummy time more " fun " ; and (4) Even if you just do 5-15 minute stretches 6-15 times a day eventually she won't mind it as much. I even asked our daycare provider and they helped with her and eventually she just got used to it. One thing that worked for me is I would give her 5 minutes of tummy time every time I changed her diaper. She got used to me showing her how to roll and eventually didn't put up as much of a fit. Good luck, let me know if you need any other ideas. > > I am a first time mommy and know it is important for my 5 month old daughter to have > tummy time but she HATES it. Guest guest
I agree that you aren't doing anything wrong. Most babies hate tummy time....my son did until about 8 months when he started sleeping on his tummy! Realize tummy time can be holding her or " airplane " or other things. It doesn't mean just being on their tummy on the floor. My son could roll from tummy to back around 4 months then around 6 months he rolled back to tummy 2 or 3 times and then it wasn't until about 8 months that he was rolling all the time. Some babies never crawl (and supposedly its not a milestone anymore). Also, my son couldn't get from laying to sitting until right around a year. And the interesting thing is that he went from not being able to do it to doing it with ease almost immediately. My point is every baby is so different and as parents we just try our best to help them along. So back to tummy time, just keep helping her to do it even if it is a minute or two increase a day, > > > > I am a first time mommy and know it is important for my 5 month old > daughter to have > > tummy time but she HATES it. Guest guest
If you visit cranialtech.com, they have a brochure that shows you what qualifies as "tummy time." There are so many things that you wouldn't even think would count! I highly recommend visiting their site!!! Toni Re: Tummy Time Help!!! I agree that you aren't doing anything wrong.
