Guest guest
A lot of people have to increase first their cortisol dose then their thyroid dose during Fall and Winter. What you are describing is fairly common with us. Are you taking vitamin D? Are you tracking your temps? You sound like you have low cortisol symptoms first and foremost followed by low thyroid symptoms which could be either not enough meds or RT3 issues (more likely with your dose). Could you give us an idea of what doses you take (cortisol) and how often during the day? Thanks, Cheri -----Original Message----- I do pretty well when it's warm, but every year when it gets cold, I get sick. Any one have any insight on this? I am at my wit's end trying to figure out is causing this and what to do. Thank you, Theda .

Guest guest
The weight issue, face, and low temps along with your history and thyroid labs say to me this is a thyroid issue if your adrenals are stable on your current HC dosage. I assumed low cortisol without having all your extra info. I have the same symptoms with low cortisol but when my thyroid isn't getting into the cells. Low and high cortisol symptoms mimic each other but with low cortisol OR with RT3 issues it is really about the thyroid once cortisol supplementation is optimized. So, are your temps stable based on Dr. Rind's graphing? If they are, your cortisol level is likely okay and you don't need more (or less), only need to address the RT3 issue. You sound like you have a lot of thyroid built up just floating around in your system and not getting into the cells. Getting on T3 only can help clear this out and get it into your cells. Your vitamin D dosage is way too low. 5,000 IU is usually the minimum when supplementing here. That you test for if you haven't recently. Cortisol labs won't help you because you are on HC which throws off the results and at your high dose you definitely do not want to go off just to test. Some people need much higher doses. Cheri -----Original Message----- I do take Vit D, 150 IU a day. I also have the at belly and rear and a swollen face (although it is my lower jaw and ch e eks and not the moon face) and I've gained about 15 lbs since October--which is a lot for me as I'm only 5'3 " -- But I think I am on too much HC already. If any one can recommend a doc in Eugene, Oregon that would be great! Thank you! Theda .
Guest guest
Thanks, Cheri. Ah. I was afraid you might say that! I am at a loss though what to do now as I am completely ignorant about RT3 and T3 meds. I have seen discussions about it here and it seems complicated. Doubly so right now as my brain is futz. Is there a place I can go that will explain it and tell me how to proceed as I don't want to be a pest. Should I stop all thyroid-s completely and get a T3 med instead? What is it called? I self-treat as I am terrified of doctors-- that issue I mentioned was not the first, or even the second time doctors have almost killed me. I have not done the Rind graphing. I will do that and see if my temps are stable, and I will get some extra Vit D. I'll do some research! I looked on STTM and didn't see any thing, but may be I looked in the wrong place. Thanks again, Theda You sound > like you have a lot of thyroid built up just floating around in your system > and not getting into the cells. Guest guest
Thanks, Val and Cheri! I am taking 6 grains of Thyroid-S, so at the end of the six weeks then I would be taking 150 mcg of Cytomel per day? And I would still raise from there if temps are still low? Just want to make sure I get this correctly! I've read in several places not to take more than 100 mcg of this per day? I've seen this on sites where they are selling this to people to lose weight and for body-building (!!!) though, so it probably does not apply? I am shocked at how much the cost of Cytomel has risen! I did buy some about 6 months ago and the price has more than doubled (at MM) since then--over a dollar for each 20 mcg tab. Yikes! I did not see another source in the DL (from Chris) except for MM. Any one know the best place to buy? I found a Swiss place (begins with ort) pretty darn cheap ( $45.00 for 100, 50 mcg tabs--a Greek manufacturer) but don't know if they are trustworthy to buy from? Thanks again, LifeSavers! Guest guest
As you switch to ALL T3 you may find a spot where oyu suddenly go hyperthyroid. WATCH your tempos carefully for this as 150mcg is a pretty high dose, though I have seen some that actually needed more than that. I have been on 150mcg for about 11 months now and it is perfect for me. But as you clear out excess RT3 the active T3 will begin to be able to work and the 150 may be too high at that point which is why you watch your temps. They will go over 98.6 if it is too much. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Excellent! Thank you! I do have one more question! I thought the Cytomel to fix this RT3 problem was temporary and then one would gradually go back on the Thyroid-S (or Armour) , but you, Val, have been on Cytomel for almost a year. So, does this mean that I would stay on Cytomel permanently as I have a resistance problem? Or is this some thing we have to wait and see about? Thanks, Theda > > As you switch to ALL T3 you may find a spot where oyu suddenly go > hyperthyroid. Guest guest
It depends on what is causing your high RT3. FOr me it was high cortiosl and probably Diabetes. I am soon trying going back on SAmour as I think my AM cortiosl has finally lowered, but now to see if it lowered TOO much! LOL -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Ah ha! **light bulb** I think I am good to go for now! Again, thanks so much! I wonder if it is high cortisol for me too / HC stress dosing that caused it, that would explain why it happens in the winter for me as I get sick with a cold or some thing, stress dose and then it snowballs. I am already feeling better just with the hope you have given me! Hooray! Theda > It depends on what is causing your high RT3. FOr me it was high cortiosl > and probably Diabetes.
