Guest guest
The indicator for measuring plagio is the difference in the measurements of the diagonals of the head. In your case that would be 6¼ - 5 7/8 = 3/8 inches. In mm that is 9.5 mm. normal 0-3 mm very mild <6 mm mild - 6-10 mm moderate - 10-15 mm severe - 15+ mm Brachycephaly Severity is measured by the Cephalic Ratio = Cranial Breadth (ML)/Cranial Length (AP). In your case that would be 5 / 6 1/8 = 81% ideal ratio - 78% normal - 73-83% moderate - 83.1% to 87.9% severe - 88% and higher I think that given that your plagio measurement is close to be being moderate I would go for a second opinion. Is your child still sleeping on the flat side of his head because of the torticollis? My son actually got worse from the time of his initial assessment (9.6 mm) until he got banded (12.2 mm) because despite my repositioning efforts I couldn’t keep him off his head all the time. While he didn’t look that bad we banded him more to prevent it from getting any worse. He has some plagio as well and recently we visited Hanger to see about a helmet. He was denied a helmet as his plagio wasn't bad enough (or so they say). I found a sheet of measurements from that appointment but I don't know what they mean so if anyone can help me out that would be great. Guest guest
Thank you so much for the info!! He does not sleep on the flattened side at all any more. He sleeps in a positioner making him sleep on the 'good' side as per instructions from the helmet people. He doesn't look like anything is wrong when you are looking at him directly in the face. You can only tell something is off when you look down upon his head and see the difference in his ears. > > The indicator for measuring plagio is the difference in the measurements of > the diagonals of the head.
