Guest guest
I know thats what they say, but there are so many women, some in here even, that have a lumpectomy only to have a mastectomy shortly there after or later on. I applaud you for having a bilateral mastectomy. Wish I would have had a computer when I was diagnosed or known someone going through bc that I could have talked to as I more than likely would have done the same as you. I will keep you in my prayers. I have known several women that went with a lumpectomy only to have to go back to have a mastectomy. nne, I just read an up-to-date article that also states there's no difference in survival rates. The article, does however state, that what a mastectomy " buys " over lumpectomy is *peace of mind.* That, in itself, probably is worth it. I will be getting a bilateral mastectomy even though my left only had one to three TINY DCIS's (right has two tumors, one 8 cm). I didn't want to have to worry as much about recurrence in the left. The article also mentioned that the US mastectomy rate is much higher than in Europe BECAUSE women are given more information for a choice. It's the women that want the more radical surgery, not necessarily the doctors. -Frances -- -Frances Bartels *** ki0dz@...
