Guest guest
Hi-- I am new to the group and started doing research on Armour for my son who is 11 y.o., hypo and has Down syndrome. He just began using the Armour about a month ago. I think that I have thyroid/adrenal issues of my own and just about 4 days ago began taking ACE. I read about it on an Autism-Mercury group that I belong to for my other son who has autism. It was recommended that he try it because of OCD, anxiety and sensory issues. To make a long story short---I just got my period and it is about a week early (I am usually very regular). My question is, could this be from the ACE? I have only been taking 1/4 cap a day to acclimate myself. I am a little nervous about it, especially since I just started my son (with autism) on it Saturday. Please help!! Guest guest
It could. How much cortisol does ACE have in it? My periods changed for a few months as I was ramping up my cortisol until I got the right dose and now it appears they are normal again. Guest guest
I bought the brand from nutricology and I believe it has no cortisol in it---just bovine adrenal tissue (300mg). Could this be right? Laurie > > It could. How much cortisol does ACE have in it? Guest guest
Whether it is bovine or porcine, if it is the cortex, it has cortisol since ALL adrenal cortexes have cortisol. The reason you have to know how much is you can not effectively treat with ACE or any other glandulars without knowing how much cortisol you are getting and need. That is why many of us who were on glandulars switched to plain cortisol instead of the adrenal cortex so we can know for sure how much we are getting. With glandulars, it is nearly impossible to create a good treatment program because other than Isocort, many do not tell you how much cortisol is in each pill and how much of the other things like adrenaline, aldosterone, etc. that will also be in the supplement. Guest guest
OK---now I am totally confused! This is the link to the product that I am using: www.nutricology.com/Adrenal-Organic-Glandular-75-Vegetarian-Caps-p- 16417.html It was recommended for my 9 y.o. son with autism and I decided to try it first seeing as I did Dr. Rind's matrix and had many adrenal issues myself. I was just wondering if this could be the reason that my period came a week early. Laurie > > Nil, > Extracts contain specific things they extract our of the organ, like cortex > from adrenals. Guest guest
Yes, it could be because the glandular has adrenal tissue which means it contains some cortisol, yet doesn't tell you how much. Cortisol at low levels but not quite where you need it yet can cause your period to be off. It did for me on Isocort for the first three months until I upped my dose and switched to HC cream. 300 mg of Bovine adrenal tissue per caplet. " This organic glandular material is processed by lyophilization of glands derived from government-inspected, range-fed animals, raised in New Zealand without hormones or antibiotics. The material is frozen, then subjected to a high vacuum that vaporizes moisture directly from the solid state, thereby maintaining its biological activity. " Well, at least they don't add hormones to the feed or antibiotics, lol. Notice the FDA disclaimer? That is a requirement to sell as a supplement and not a drug. Guest guest
Hi Cheri I am thinking manufacturing process for hormones is different and it will be difficult to save hormones effectively while producing glandulars. I am thinking they will be gone/corrupted during glandular manufacturing. They may exist in the raw material at start of the manufacturing process but they will loose their original structure/potency during processing. It is said on isocort label that product is made from freeze-dried adrenal cortex. This must be special processing to keep hormones alive. If that was not needed they would not do this. I also have used various glandulars and did not notice any significant additional cortisol effect in addition to my isocort.one glandular that I did not work well for me was Adrenal by Pure Encapsulations. It made me wired and I later learned that it was made of whole adrenal and probably contained a bit of adrenaline which I am allergic to. How much was that `bit`? we don't know probably because of the reasons you explained.my be some tiny amount of hormones pass through this glandular tablet or capsule processing but the amount may not be significant.I am also thinking if Dr. 's glandulars contained significant amounts of t3 or t4 to effect patients therapy, and he kept this secret this would not be ethical. I really don't think anyone who has a bit of concept of responsibility would do that. I don't know if I am wrong thinking that way. My thoughts:) best wishes Nil RE: adrenal cortex extract Nil, Extracts contain specific things they extract our of the organ, like cortex from adrenals. However, glandulars contain that and the rest of the gland. So if can see how hormones are in extracts, you can deduce they are in glandulars too since that part of the extract is in the glandular. I know Dr. 's does because we discussed it when I talked to him and he agreed that glandulars in general contain hormones. They don't label it separately though because you get into the legal aspects of selling it as a supplement versus a drug...the later is FDA regulated. For example, I imagine if Dr. listed how much T3 and T4 were in his formula (if he even knows and it is standardized) that he would have to have it be a prescription only med like Armour is in the US. Guest guest
Well, Nil, I just wrote to Dr. so I will post what he says when I hear back. If they don't have significant amounts, I might add some back in with my HC to see if I get an added effect. I really don't know enough about how they process glandulars other then what I have seen on med TV shows and from seeing animals butchered on farms, lol. I would think they would list " no hormones " for any product that doesn't have them but who knows. Guest guest
Well, it will solve it about HIS formula anyway, lol. He does say his is processed without hormones, unlike other ones that don't label. But yes, I want to know because I was on his formula and would consider adding some back in for the DNA & RNA stuff. Guest guest
I think I read on another thread that Isocort will cause reflux to flare up if you have problems with reflux. Would you agree? Are there other things you can use in place of HC or Isocort that don't make reflux worse? For many of us, the answer is NO there is NO substitute for HC that is remotely adequate. So some of us with reflux or GI problems use HC cream. Some on Isocort are not in such bad states, and might be able to use alternatives, but I'd bet not very many. sol
