Guest guest
I noticed my son's plagio around 6 weeks as well. I would try all the repo you can and maybe go to a specialist who can really teach you the right way to do repo so you improve his head and don't create any other problems in the shape. It is early so repo should work. Good luck. Sybil From: lka_236 <lka_236@...>Subject: 6 week old...slightly mishappened headPlagiocephaly Date: Thursday, April 10, 2008, 4:41 PM Okay, so here I am scrutinizing my 6 week old son's head. Despite other people not seeing it (and only being able to see it in certain angles), I think is head is very slightly mis-shappened on the right side. It is definitely not to the point where I would consider a band; however, I don't want it to get there if I can avoid it. Since he was born I've thought that he preferred looking to the right (opposite of my 22 month old DOC grad). Since birth I've been rotating which way I lay his head down, watching how I hold him (which if anything his head would be flat on the left since I am right handed and hold him more often in my right arm but I do try to alternate sides, I limit time in the bouncy seat/swing (and I use the Boppy Noggin Nest each time I put him in those things), and doing lots of tummy time (which he pretty much can hold his head up on his own). He is already such a wiggler. I've been laying him on his side inside a wedge and swaddled during naps; however, he can get himself to his back and then he turns his head how he wants to. Are there are things to try? I really don't think he has tort because he can and does look all the way in both directions. With my 22 month old, it was virtually impossible to get him to willingly turn to the left but I don't see my 6 week old not wanting to turn both ways (he just prefers to look right more often than left). Thanks in advance for the tips.__________________________________________________
Guest guest
Our doctor suggested pining a rolled up cloth diaper or a sock filled with rice to the back of my son's clothes to keep him in one position at night. With something attached to him it made it more difficult to move around. Guest guest
That is a great idea. I wish I would have known that one when we were trying repo. My son may have stayed on side we needed him to. I will keep it in mind if we have other kids. Guest guest
That is a great idea...I'm trying to think exactly how the cloth diaper would be in relation to the head. Do you have any pics you could send? Guest guest
I don't have any pictures but basically it would run the full length of the back (from the shoulders down to the waist) which would prevent the baby from rolling on to its back. It needs to rolled pretty big, if it's too small, the baby will just roll on top of it. Does this make sense? Guest guest
Yes, I think I will try this during the day when I can keep an eye on him. Guest guest
Experience makes us wiser. You're just looking out this time around. I had a very similar situation. I could see something was wrong very early, but it was in the front of his head. It sounds like you're doing many of the things that I wish I had done. Keep up the good work and be optimistic. > > > > > > > > Our doctor suggested pining a rolled up cloth diaper or a sock > > > filled with > > > > rice to the back of my son's clothes to keep him in one > position > > at > > > night. > > > > With something attached to him it made it more difficult to > move > > > around. > > > > > > > > Molly > > > > Novato, California > > > > Nicolas, 2, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06- > > 9/12/06, > > > > Graduate! > > > > , 5 > > > > , 8 > > > > > > > > 6 week old...slightly mishappened head > > > > > > > > Okay, so here I am scrutinizing my 6 week old son's head. > > Despite > > > > other people not seeing it (and only being able to see it in > > > certain > > > > angles), I think is head is very slightly mis-shappened on the > > > right > > > > side. Guest guest
Just wanted to add that you might want to look into Cranial Sacral Therapy. Mine DS has had helmets and now that his helmets are off we are doing CST once a month. I honestly believe the CST is helping thought not as dramatically or quickly as the helmet. If I had to do it all over again I would have taken DS in for CST as soon as I noticed something wrong. At such a young asge your LO still has time to self correct and CST can help release any sutural restrictions. > > > > > > > > > > Our doctor suggested pining a rolled up cloth diaper or a > sock > > > > filled with > > > > > rice to the back of my son's clothes to keep him in one > > position > > > at > > > > night. > > > > > With something attached to him it made it more difficult to > > move > > > > around. > > > > > > > > > > Molly > > > > > Novato, California > > > > > Nicolas, 2, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06- > > > 9/12/06, > > > > > Graduate! > > > > > , 5 > > > > > , 8 > > > > > > > > > > 6 week old...slightly mishappened head > > > > > > > > > > Okay, so here I am scrutinizing my 6 week old son's head. > > > Despite > > > > > other people not seeing it (and only being able to see it in > > > > certain > > > > > angles), I think is head is very slightly mis-shappened on > the > > > > right > > > > > side.
