Decorating Football Helmets

For the parents of all the boys out there...I am planning to paint

Jake's DOCBand as a Steelers helmet this weekend, and I found a great

item that you all might be interested in. For the stripe that goes

down the middle of the football helmet, I was worried about trying to

paint a straight line and wanted to come up with something else. So I

am going to use yellow electrical tape (like the black kind that you

wrap around wires and stuff). It's the perfect width and it's nice and

thin, just like a sticker. I went to Lowe's and Home Depot and they

have a slew of different colors: white, brown, green, blue, purple,

red, orange, yellow and black. I just wanted to pass the idea along to

anyone who was interested.

wow, glad someone tried it, i thought about it but worried the shade would be wrong (as i did w/ the zillion shades of yellow paint plus the straight worry) so what i did was go to the steelers website and save the round logo to my computer then i opened it in paint shop so I could snag the yellow from the logo then i printed out the logo and a stripe on sticker paper for the printer. but it was a chore b/c it didnt stick as well as i bet electrical tape would. but i was being too lazy to drive to get tape (though electrical is not what came to mind, i had though reflective tape probably came in a lot of colors but still figured the hardware store was my only option) and to cheap to buy some when i had to buy the paper anyway b/c i couldnt get a steelers logo anywhere (we live in sc and though in a pocket filled w/ lots of steelers fans still not near enough to get any real steelers stuff here and ebayand the steelers website only had car logo decals that were too big). curious what you are doing for the logo? are you guys just big fans? jc since it isnt football season lol, joey had his during football season and for halloween (he was a steelers football player for halloween)

I actually originally bought yellow duct tape from 's, they

have a whole bunch of colors and it was the perfect color yellow,

but I would have had to cut it to make smaller strips and didn't

want to have to deal with cutting the tape straight. The electrical

tape is not the perfect yellow, but you can only tell when he's

actually wearing his Steelers jersey to go with it, as he is today.

I don't think other people would notice it. I am from Pittsburgh, so

I do wish it was football season, but the timing just didn't match

up. For the logo, I had a connecting flight in Pittsburgh a couple

of months ago, and grabbed a window cling on of the logo. I used mod

podge to get it to stick, then mod podged over it. It was just

slightly too big, so I let it over lap the edges and cut the extra

off. I think it looks pretty good that way, rather than having a

smaller logo. I'll post a photo later tonight.
