Hi Misty,

welcome to the group. Sorry I don't know any band providers in TN.

Hopefully your doctor will have that information for you. Are you

seeing the pediatrician on Thursday or a specialist? How old is your

daughter? My daughter wore a starband and got very good correction. At

first it was overwhelming, but gets easier once you have the band. Our

band was covered 100% by our HMO, but it varies widely.

Please let us know how things go and what you find out about bands in

your area.

Hi Misty-

The first thing you should do is call your insurance company and ask

them what your benefits are for Durable Medical Equipment (DME), but

then also ask them specifically if Dynamic Orthotic Cranioplasty

(DOC) devises are included under DME. Also ask if you need pre-

approval before getting such a device (assuming it's covered). Some

insurances need pre-approval, some don't.

Then check out the websites for Cranial Technologies, makers of the

DocBand (www.cranialtech.com), and Orthomerica, makers of the

StarBand (www.orthomerica.com). Do a search to find the closest

locations to you. There is another band, called the Hanger band. I'm

not sure what that website is though, maybe someone else can help

you there. Also, your insurance company may be able to help identify

an in-network orthotics provider (again, assuming it's covered).

If the doctor feels that a band is necessary, they will right a

prescription for it and should be able to point you in the right

direction of a local orthotist, if you haven't found one already by

Thursday. You can't get a band without a script. Once you get the

script and find a band provider that you're happy with, you're

daughter will either be scanned or casted for a costum-fitted band.

A week or 2 later, you'll get the band and she will eventually wear

it 23 hours a day. The length of time of treatment depends on the

age of the baby and the severity of the plagio.

Hope that helps a little. Please keep us posted. Good luck!
