When do you stop using the helmet? Is it when they don't see

improvement anymore? Do they want you to leave the helmet on a bit

longer to make sure there is no regression? I guess I'm asking how do

you know when it's time to graduate?

Various factors...either when you are happy with the results

(although in my opinion if a child still fits in the band then I'd

keep it on longer because there may be more results), when a child

outgrows a helmet, holding pressures are gone, DOC band--16 weeks if

they didn't outgrow it sooner, etc. Our son outgrew his DOC band at

8 weeks so he was done. Some orthos will keep it on longer to

prevent regression although regression is rare. These are good

questions to ask your specific orthosist.

I would tend to agree that if the helmet still fits then keep it on as

long as possible. Our son had two helmets and the second one he

learned to take off at 10 mo. It was pretty much impossible to make

him keep it on, so the orthotist told us we were done. Well I wish I

would have found this group back then because some of you had

interesting ideas for keeping it on that would have at least been

worth a try, his head is still off enough that sunglasses do not fit

quite right.
