Guest guest
Hi- I've been lurking here for a while now (since January when my daughter received her starband) but this is my first time posting. First I wanted to say I'm so glad i found this group! I've learned so much and its wonderful to read and be in an environment with others going through similar experiences. I do have a question which I didn't see addressed yet. My daughter semi-graduated this past Friday after 8 weeks..Yeah!! She needs to continue to wear her helmet for naps and at night only. Which leads to my question about regression. Has anyone experienced any regression with plagio once discontinuing the helmet? The orthotist wants her to continue wearing for naps and sleep for a couple of weeks as a precaution as she still sleeps on her back and does not roll. This is a little unsettling to me. What happens after the couple of weeks, do i need to go back to watching how she is positioned each time she is lying on her back?
Guest guest
With the DOC band from Cranial Tech I was told absolutely not to use the helmet at all after graduation. I do not understand why they would instruct you to do so on naps and nighttime. It doesnt make sense since the head needs the 24 hour a day holding to work. Anyone with a starband have this issue. Now I am also interested in the answer,,,it doesnt sound right. I might also call another office that uses your band to see if they recommend that graduates do this. Guest guest
I know of someone whose son was in a StarBand and " graduated " last week but is still wearing it at naps and nighttime. They basically told her that as long as it fits, to keep it on him for sleeping. And she is anxious about regression so she's all for it. The StarBand does have a longer life than the DocBand, so it doesn't really surprise that they would say to wear it for sleeping. As soon as it shows any signs of snugness though, I would stop using it. Jake-18m (tort resolved/rt plagio/DocBand 2/11/08) Jordan-
Guest guest
I agree with . I can't see any harm in wearing it at naps and nighttime. I would think that would be beneficial since that is the time that they spend on their back and may revert to the positioning that caused the problem in the first place. Also, if the child is very young they may want to do this so that there isn't a chance for regression. I believe that it is more common the younger the baby is. Good Luck!
