Guest guest
Thank you to everyone who responded regarding my 5 month old daughter and banding. I was trying to respond to each individual response, but i was holding her and don't know what key i hit but the messages are gone, oops! i do have a question though for anyone who might be in ohio, or even if you aren't and have an opinion i'd love to hear it! the choices here are very limited, the doc band facility that was in cleveland no longer does bands, so the hanger facility is the only choice for us unless we go to illinois. since we can't afford to go to illinois every week, we have to use a facility in ohio. but this orthotist says he only sees about 4-5 babies a year. he seemed very knowledgeable and took his time with us answering all of our questions, but i'm a little nervous that he doesn't do a lot of babies. has anyone had a good experience with an orthotist that doesn't strictly do bandings??? thanks cheryl
Guest guest
Hi Cheryl:I'm in Ohio. In the Cincinnati area. Where do you live? My son was banded in 2000 (yep, that was just yesterday, you know... *smile* ) I post from time to time because he had a very specific headshape (long and narrow/scaphocephalic). Anyway, in 2000 Ohio didn't have any Cranial Tech facilities, and they were the only provider, at the time, who had a molding device for that specific head shape. I drove to my mom's, she lives in Toledo, on thursday night, and our appointment was on Friday in Chicago. We'd drive up, have the appointment, eat lunch, get checked for red spots, and then would drive back to her house (sharing the driving). I would go back to Cincinnati on Sunday. But, our son was 6 months old when he was casted (we waited over a month for insurance to give us an answer - they had to "talk" to the neurosurgeon "in person" and his secretary really wasn't into playing p hone tag.... anyway, because of his age, we didn't need to go every week. We traveled every 2 weeks instead of every week, which helped a lot on the travel. I know with the price of gas as well as juggling jobs it might not be doable. Just wanted to give our experience. I was lucky because my place of employment allowed me to work 10 hour days during the weeks i needed to travel, so I could have those fridays off. Angleflight might be able to help, but we never chose to look into it.Take care.mom to Quinn, born 11/99, DOCband grad 10/00>------- Original Message ------->From : cramercnj[mailto:cramercnj@...]>Sent : 5/2/2008 2:17:49 PM>To : Plagiocephaly >Cc : >Subject : RE: Thanks and need opinions from Ohio!>>Thank you to everyone who respon ded regarding my 5 month old daughter and banding. Guest guest
-I'm in Canton Ohio. This is so frustrating, because I want to make sure the orthotist has enough experience, but just don't know how i would manage to travel if we have to end up going every week or something. The hanger facility we went to for our consult is only 10 minutes away, but if he doesn't have enough experience i'm afraid i'll regret going there just because it was close. Life is all about sacrifice for our kids so I might just end up traveling anyway... -- In Plagiocephaly , " " <tnt@...> wrote: > > > Hi Cheryl: > > I'm in Ohio. In the Cincinnati area. Guest guest
---We are currently on our second Hanger Band in one month and my husband and I are very diaappointed with all of the problems we have had so far. If I could do it over, I would have gone to someone else. It is true what all the other parents here say, the band is only as good as the person working on it. We are not in Ohio and I would rather not publicly bash my orthotist but if someone really needs to know where we go, email me privately. (we are nowhere near anyone currently posting) In Plagiocephaly , " cramercnj " <cramercnj@...> wrote: > > -I'm in Canton Ohio. Guest guest
Hi Sorry you are having a bad experience with this. I really didn't know that I should be picky when we were told my daugther would need a band, but we were luckly and ended up with a very experienced starband ortho. If you think there is anything I, or others in the group can help with please let us know. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > > > > > > > > Hi Cheryl: > > > > > > I'm in Ohio. Guest guest
Hi there- Have you looked into any orthos in Pittsburgh? That wouldn't be too far of a hike from Canton (I'm from Pittsburgh but now I live in Raleigh). I believe the ortho in Pittsburgh would be dealing with a Hanger band as well (there are a couple of locations there I believe), but it might be worth at least a phone call to ask a few questions and see if it might be worth checking them out. I'm sorry I don't have any specific information for you, but let me know and maybe I can track something down for you. Good luck!
