Those of you taking oral temperature using a mercury thermometer, how

long do you leave the thermometer in your mouth? I usually take mine

for 3 minutes but have discovered there is a huge difference in the

reading if it is left for 5 minutes

I just got a new thermometer and there were no instructions! Do you

leave it in for 5 minutes?

:)

With a mercury it will de0nd on the individual thermometer. Try checking

it at 3 monutes then again at 5 mionutes. If the number is the same then

you knwo you can use the three minutes. If it has gone up at 5 moniutes

the longer time is needed for that thermpometer.
