Guest guest
My daughter is on day three of her Hanger helmet. The entire area under the 'sideburn' part of the helmet (both cheeks) is completely red and shows an even redder outline. I called Hanger on Monday (our one week check is for this Friday) and all they did was change my appt one day earlier to Thursday. I took DD out of the helmet tonight b.c. it looks so bad and red (stays red even hours later) and I can't believe that is normal/acceptable. I see on the pictures on here that the other kids' helmets seem to fit better around their faces. DD's helmet is close to her eyes on the sides and does give her the 'popeye' on one eye. Anyhow, I will call Hanger first thing in the morning. DD is a chubby little six month old (23 pounds) and she has some big cheeks but if the helmet will do this to her cheeks, I won't put her in it. Does anyone have any help/advice/encouraging words?
Guest guest
My first instinct is to tell you that the red marks are likely " just " heat rash, but I don't know that much about Hanger to be sure and heat rash on my son usually disappeared rather quickly once the helmet was off. I do know that with the DocBand, the sideburns are not supposed to be pressure points, so our therapist assured us that if there were red spots in that area, that it was only heat rash and not to worry about it if it didn't go away within the hour off. However, if it's lasting well over an hour, I would be concerned too. I would hope it would just be a matter of shaving some of the foam away to allow for more room in the sideburns. Helmets can take a number of adjustments in the first week or so to get the fit just right. Did they do any sort of adjustments at all at the first fitting? Our therapist came in with a wax pencil and marked on the band where he needed to cut some away, and then he still marked and cut a little more at our one-week check. Again, that's DocBand, but I think every mom should expect a decent fit for something that's going to be worn 23 hours a day for weeks, if not months. Good luck! Guest guest
They should make an adjustment to that area of the helmet - and if that doesnt work try putting pieces of moleskin (you can get this almost anywhere) on the areas that are rubbing. Guest guest
My son Jack, day 4 in his hanger band, has the same. He is napping in the band but still sleeping without it, it seems the redness on his temples and cheeks disappear by the AM. They did melt the sideburn/cheek areas the first round to pull them out, I am guessing they need to do this for you. I would continue using but take it off more often, until tomorrow. Guest guest
Didn't hanger give you a sheet with instructions??? If redness stays for more than 1 hour after you take off the band then DO NOT put the band back on and you get in that office ASAP! I can't believe they wouldn't see you next day! You don't want the skin to break down and then it would mean even MORE time out of the band. I would love to know if they gave you that sheet or not... where are you located?
