Guest guest
I finished my sixth treatment (third day) of Mammmosite radiation therapy on Friday. The area being treated is located about half way between my nipple and cleavage at the three o'clock position. Yesterday morning I woke to find a large hard lump in the area they are irradiating. I asked the visiting nurse who changed my dressing if that was normal and she said it was. Since I wasn't particularlry uncomfortable I thought no more about it. This morning I woke to find that an area of my areola is distended as well as an area on the underside of my breast. The swelling near my nipple is very painful (not surprising) and I was wondering if ice or heat or both might help to bring the swelling down. I'll talk to the folks at the cancer center on Monday, of course, but am wondering what others' experience might be with this particular side effect and ways to make it more tolerable. Thanks so much, Micki
