Guest guest
> Jim, where would one find a non soy based PS... since I need it, > this is > really important to me. > No idea - which means I haven't looked. I'd think there might be SOMEONE still making the bovine, but after the Mad Cow scare, I'm not sure.. I wonder if the drug companies will try to get in on this - with " synthetic bovine PS " .. VitaCost has A PS product, which has good reviews - abot memory and concentration: http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Phosphatidylserine-Complex/pd_section- pr#ProductReviews Another article by Ray Sahelian, MD about the differences between soy and bovine PS: http://www.raysahelian.com/ps.html It lists two studies on soy-derived PS that it says are " mixed " He concludes with this: " There are many mind boosters that have good scientific support that phosphatidylserine, at this time, is low on my list, particularly since it is also very expensive. However, soy-derived phosphatidylserine does have its supporters who claim that it works for them, and a couple of studies indicate it may have stress modifying effect. As to phosphatidylserine in relation to memory, I have listed two studies below which have come to different conclusions, one supporting its use, another did not find PS to influence memory. We have made this product available for those who notice benefits from it. As to overall brain enhancement, most people prefer the results from Mind Power Rx. " Caveat Emptor that he seems to be involved with selling the product.. The article states that in bovine PS, the fatty acids attached are mostly DHA and AA (arachidonic acid), both long-chain fatty acids (Enig, Know Your Fats) " “The fatty acids in bovine cortex phosphatidylserine are mostly made of DHA and arachidonic acid while the fatty acids from soy-derived phosphatidylserine are made mostly from oleic, linolenic, and linoleic acids. It’s quite likely the DHA and arachidonic acids in BC- phosphatidylserine could have some cognitive effect. It’s also possible that the clinical effects from taking phosphatidylserine may be due to this nutrient influencing the release of histamine, glucose uptake in the brain, or in other yet unknown ways.” So perhaps using soy PS along with a DHA would work, as it does say that the human brain mainly synthesizes it from it's components. DHA I think is in the Omega-3/6/9 oils (I forget what is highest in it). I'm not sure if AA is in anything in particular. So, nobody seems to really know.. Guest guest
Thanks Jim, I think someone mentioned a cream, pricey, but worked well. I'm one of the oddballs in the group that does have high Cortisol, especially the late night one. I can report that after a week, I'm getting a bit more uninterrupted sleep and have begun to wean down the klonopin which I'm doing slowly. Still using Soma (carisporidol) muscle relaxer. BUT, was doing all this before starting Vals suggestions of PS (using Serphios from Vitacost.com FANTASTIC SERVICE) and Rhodhiola and Ashwaganda. Had stopped everything except bp meds (which I've halved) for my testing. Still on for shrink appointment on Tuesday. later all, kc in AZ
Guest guest
Here is a link for Seriphos, which I believe, has no soy. http://www.vitacost.com/InterPlexusSeriphos?csrc=PPCADWLT-seriphos & s_kwcid=serip\ hos|462153431
Guest guest
FYI, Seriphos is the PS supplement I tried, which, as I mentioned in the " Something VERY Interesting " thread, made me very tired. Then I tried it at night, to lower nighttime cortisol, and it did help me sleep, but I was tired all morning, too. It's entirely possible that it would have the opposite effect on someone else, though. > > Here is a link for Seriphos, which I believe, has no soy. > http://www.vitacost.com/InterPlexusSeriphos?csrc=PPCADWLT-seriphos & s_kwcid=serip\ hos|462153431 > > > >
