, Thanks for your input. The situation is that he has been wearing a full helmet, not the band, for four straight months 23/7. It was just that last month that he had to wear the collar during the day and the helmet at night. He is now 13 months , outgrew his helmet by 4mm, and I can see a difference on both sides. Since my original question last week, I visited his surgeon who told me it was more important that he focus on wearing the collar and suit rather the helmet. She assured me that just because I notice it doesn't mean that others will. "Besides, after one years of age, the head won't shape up as much as it would under a year." I hope she is right. I only want the best for him. Thanks again for your time and advice. If anyone knows about torticolis, I'd love to chat with them. He's had therapy for seven months now and I don't see any progress yet. Thanks. Good luck with yours. Plagiocephaly From: lka_236@...Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2008 04:48:53 +0000Subject: Re: Outgrown helmet

Did your son wear the helmet at night only for the entire 5 months?

If so, then it seems very plausible that you wouldn't see the

correction you desired as the head is growing and you never know when

plus you would be missing 12 or so hours of growth during the day

possibly. The band relies on growth. I think the majority of the

babies that have been banded here wore the band the majority of the

time 23/7. My son wore his band 23/7 from 7.5-9.5 months. While his

head still has a little assymetry (3mm)...it is only noticeable to me

and I am pleased with the results we got. If you aren't happy, then I

would consider another helmet. My son didn't have tort so I have no

idea if it is better to wear the band less (and longer) so he can wear

the tot collar and thera-togs suit more OR if it would be better to

wear the band 23/7 and then when he graduates wear the tot collar and

thera-togs suit while keeping him off his back as much as possible.

In my opinion, I would think wear the band 23/7 and then the tot

collar and thera-togs suit when he graduates. I would ask your PT

though.

Ana,

Have you checked out the torticollis group? They have lots of active users and info in the archives.
