Guest guest
I think if he's been out of the band for 2 weeks due to illness it is good to recast. At this age the head grows quickly so it makes sense it won't fit properly after that amount of time. They should redo the band for free, but this sounds like the best option to me. I wouldn't want them to " make " the existing band fit. My daughter got her band at 5 mo and had a lot of growth, particularly at first. You should see very good results once you get the new band. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > Ok so we have had some issues with the helmet (starband). Guest guest
Thanks so much for all your post. I am just worried that the a symetry won't be fixed. He also had tort. but that is doing so much better. When we went in the other day the measurments have not changed so that does make me feel better that it did not get worse. Hopefully this helmet will fit better. The other helmet sides were to close to his eye and he kept shifting off his forhead. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this one will be in in a week so we can get this on a roll before he has a growth spirt. Thanks to all! > > > > Ok so we have had some issues with the helmet (starband). He got it and > > he got sick for two weeks so we had to leave it off. Guest guest
I know there are people that love the Starband and have tons of good things to say about it, but I would never put my child in one again. We had a Starband for my son and I was in the office once a week for adjustments because it would rub red spots. That helmet had patches every where and it was still rubbing. My husband and I finally went with a smaller ortho place that was not in our network but our plastic surgeon highly recommended. From day one, my son was able to wear it without a single problem. Should have listened to him in the first place. We wasted a ton of valuable time on that Starband and DS head is still not quite right to this day because of it. I still don't know if the problem was the helmet, the orthotist or maybe he just had really sensetive skin but I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. We just recently had to get a helmet for dd (both born with tort. due to the size of my uterus) and we just went back to the same place that had the helmet we liked. We haven't had any issues with the helmet this time around either. Not sure how the one we got compares to others since I haven't seen the doc band or hanger helmet but I can tell you it's about half as thick as the Starband and the inside foam is much softer which I think made a huge difference. I'll try to post some pics so you can check it out if you want. > > > > Ok so we have had some issues with the helmet (starband). Guest guest
I think with starbands a lot depends on the ortho. we had a very good experience. For one thing if you had so many problems I would think your ortho should have recasted to get a better fit. Where did you go? Also who is the smaller ortho you're using? It would be good to know since in the future someone in your area may be considering the same orthos. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > > > > > Ok so we have had some issues with the helmet (starband). Guest guest
Yeah we wondered about that too but I just really didn't want to take any chances the second time around. They never even tried recasting him, the whole experience was just awful. The original place we went to was called Orthotic and Prosthetic Lab. The smaller place we went to was called Precision Prosthetics but and here's the kicker, the ortho office with Precision closed since we went there and now that orthotist went to the Orthotic and Prosthetic Lab that we didn't like. I called and spoke to her before we even considerd going back to O & P and come to find out O & P stopped doing the Starband and switched to the type of helmet our Orthotist makes. Her name is Barbara Ziegler for anyone in the St. Louis area and she is really great, I highly recommend using her. I posted some pics of the helmet, they are under L babies Lauryn N. If you go to O & P, I would specifically ask for Barb because I think the guy that we originally had is still there and I didn't care for him at all. > > > > > > > > Ok so we have had some issues with the helmet (starband). Guest guest
Just a personal note to hniemeyer74 Would you mind if I contact you personally with some questions? I don't know what the groups etiquette is on contacting a member one on one. We also live in the St. Louis area and so far I have not been impressed with the progress of my Grandson's headshape. Just today my daughter and I have talked about going to DOC in Chicago, we are just so frustrated. H. Benbrook hrbenbrook@...
