Hi! First let me say, welcome! This is an awesome group!!

My daughter wore a DOC Band for 15 weeks and got great correction. She was diagnosed at 6 months, banded at 7 months. I definitely think it was worth it! The band is worn 23 hrs a day with an hour off for bathing/cleaning. I would take off my daughter's band when I got her dressed, so it wasn't that big of a deal. She adapted to it fairly quickly, we didn't have any major problems. Where are you located at? Is there a Cranial Technologies close to you? We are in Killeen, Texas and went to the CT in Austin...the staff was great! They work solely on babies and bands, so they are very knowledgable. If you can, I would visit a CT and get a free consultation. They can let you know what her measurements and and if they would recommend a band. We are military and have Tricare. Unfortunately, Tricare does not consider the bands to be necessary, so they do not cover the bands, unless surgery is involved first. We decided to band our daughter and then try and appeal our denial, but I ran out of time and didn't file the appeal. It's very rare for Tricare to cover the bands. I am not trying to be negative, I just want to let you know the facts up front. Please, please, let me know if you have any questions or want to vent. Like I said, this group is awesome and so very informative!! Good luck!

12 mo old & just diagnosed

Kaitlyn was just today diagnosed at 12 mo of age. I am curious if any of you think this was actually worth it? What would it hurt not to get it done? I see all of the visual effects, but what will it matter over all? How bad is the doc helmet? Would she have to wear it 24/7? Also, is there anyone out there on Tricare?ANY information would be greatly appreciated!!!

HI and Welcome!

My dd wore a band and I think it was very helpful and needed. Did our dr give you #'s on how severe the plagio is... I think that would play a big part is the decision.

A band is worn 23/7 - an hour of for bath and cleaning.

If you look thru old messages for Tricare you will see old posts about it.

I just got back from my son's 1st two-week appt. He has had his band on with Cranial Technologies (doc band) for two weeks now. He just turned 9mos last week. He does have to wear the band for 23hrs of the day. Honestly, in the beginning of all of this it bothered me a lot more than it has bothered him. He's done awesome in it. The first two days were rocky but overall he has been a champ about the whole thing. I'm so proud of him..and me too now! Anyway, I started seeing great things after one week and even more after two. I know I'm a little biased so I wanted to wait and see what they said about his improvement. They agreed with me and they see a lot of improvement in him. He has flatness on his left side so his right side appeared a little pointy. Well now that is already all blended in. I am super excited and can't wait to see more improvement. After only two weeks of having my son banded, would I band again..in a heartbeat. Go with your gut. If you're

questioning whether you should band or not now then I think you should. You obviously have enough concern about it to ask for more information. Also, it will be 8-12wks out of your little one's life..better to band than to have regrets later when its too late for correction. Good luck and take care.
