Guest guest
Hi Lori, I was using the pink t-foam which is also a memory type foam only better. When it began to degrade I went to buy a replacement. What I learned was it wasn't available anymore since the open-consumer market had manufacturers making their own memory foam. So I went and bought some. All most had only a two inch thickness (my t-foam was also) so I bought it. It bottomed out way too soon! It compresses too easily and because it was laid across our " regular " mattress I felt uncomfortable. It gave me my first ever pressure sore! This forced me to take drastic measures ... I rotated my sleep positions; one night on my left side, one night on my right side and back'n'forth until my sore healed enough to switch to a roho mattress (three roho inserts snapped together to form a mattress). In two months my sore went completely away. Now I am still laying on my roho's yet I also learned that my pink t-foam is available; they misled me into thinking it wasn't being made when it was just the supplier who wasn't carrying it ......... augh!!!! Now if I switch back, I will increase its thickness to three inches, but I have already spent $2,100 cdn on the roho's. Oh well ....... so I would stay away from the off-the-shelf stuff if you know your sensitivity is as high as mine. Good luck. Guest guest
We bought a memory foam mattress last year. It was great for the first month or so. After that, it started to break down. In my experience, it's not any better than a regular foam mattress. I still continued to have bed sores/pressure spots/back aches/knee pains/shoulder pain with the memory foam mattress. The only thing that was good about the memory foam mattress was that I rolled into Joe less often from his weight on the other side of the mattress. However, it did still happen and I could feel him getting in and out of the bed which still made me rock just like a regular foam mattress. We are not sleeping on a split king sleep number bed. I love it and hate it. I love that I never feel him get in and out of bed (it's essential two twin-xl mattresses side-by-sde) and that I can control the firmness and softness of the mattress whenever I'd like. It also sits up and down at the head and feet, and has built-in massage features in the mattress. I hate that I've found two great sleep numbers - 35 is perfect for my hips, but hard on my back; 55 is perfect for my back, and hard on my hips! I still have pressure sores, too. I'm thinking I'll always have them just from the lack of muscle to hold my body in any position gravity doesn't support. However, it is the best mattress I've found for my body so far. <3Kendra > > We are about to buy a new bed/mattress. Guest guest
Dear Lori, I tried a memory foam once and found that it was great for about a week but then got way too soft very quickly. It had a indentation in it in a month right where I lay because I don't move. It is especially bad if you keep it warm (and I am always freezing). Someone at the company told me to keep the room temp at 65 or below; which is way too cold for me. I would not recommend the memory foam or Temper Pedic which is the one I had. I use a Select Comfort mattress that inflates and deflates at the touch of a button. I love it. I can inflate it very hard for transfer or turning, and then make it soft and comfortable to lie on. I lost my first one in the flood but it was 11 years old and still working great. I bought myself a new one as soon as we got settled and still love it. For Kendra: I have trouble with pressure sores, too. So I use an alternating pressure mattress over the Select Comfort on my side of the bed and have had very good results. Guest guest
Where would I be able to get an alternating pressure mattress? Did Medicaid and/or Medicare help pay for it? Would that be possible to get them to pay for one? We bought our sleep number bed out of our own pocket because we literally didn't have a bed after the move in February and insurance was taking a loooong time to respond. Plus they would only purchase a single, not anything bigger. <3Kendra > For Kendra: I have trouble with pressure sores, too. Guest guest
Dear Kendra, Medicade and Medicare paid for my alternating pressure mattress. Most medical supply stores have them or can get them. I just had to get an Rx from my Dr. It is only a single size (I have never seen of heard of a double) but I only use it on my side and it goes under the fitted sheet so there is just a small bump in the middle. We had to buy our own Select Comfort too. But they do have some budget models if you don't need the pillow top and all the extras. Guest guest
Pamela, Thanks for the suggestion on the Select Comfort mattress. We ordered one and it should be here soon. We got the adjustable head/knee option along with the massage feature. We are looking forward to getting it. For your kind referral, you will be getting a $50.00 gift card from them! Thanks again, Lori Pamela Ortego wrote: > Dear Lori, > I tried a memory foam once and found that it was great for about a > week but then got way too soft very quickly. Guest guest
Hi, I was also unsure about a mem foam bed, so I went to walmart and tried this Spa Sensations 1.5 " Memory Foam Mattress-Topper... http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4569409 I bought one that was twice the size of my bed (think it was a king or queen, I sleep on a single) and folded it in 1/2 so it will fit on top of my bed for a total of 3 " of foam. Also if you google / ebay there are alot of custom made memory foam beds for alot cheaper and they are just as good > > We are about to buy a new bed/mattress. Guest guest
Hi, I have heard a lot of you mention memory foam mattresses. When I "googled it", it took me to adult standard size mattresses. Where did you purchase those that would fit in cribs? Thanks, CandaceShed those extra pounds with MSN and The Biggest Loser!
