Hi,

I would highly doubt that tummy sleeping would cause an abnormal

head-shape (although what do I know?). If abnormal headshaping can

be caused from both back and tummy, yikes.

I would ask for a referral to CT and talk to them about your

concerns with repositioning over compensating, etc. CT can measure

and tell you severity without a prescription but you would need a

prescription to move forward with the band. If you try

repositioning for longer, I would take pictures every week and if in

a month there is no improvement or the head is worse then I would

band. There are a few moms that have been successful without

banding (I am not one of them). We saw CT at 3 months and my son

measured 8mm assymetrical. We repoed until 6.5 months and went back

to CT and he was 8mm assymetrical. As for the scaphocephaly, I

would definitely ask if craniosyntosis has been ruled out because I

think but could be wrong that a scaphocephalic head shape and cranio

sometimes go hand-in-hand.

CT has an insurance person that should be able to help you through

the " hoops " with your particular insurance. In your policy, under

durable medical equipment, you should be able to see if a band would

fit into what they will pay for and how much (80/20, 100%, etc.)

Good luck.

Hi Selena,

scaphy is a lot less common than the other shapes. I've heard you can

rest them on the back of the head to help balance it, but you can't

really rest them on their face :-) Most tummy sleepers have nice

round heads and don't end up with scaphy.

I would ask your ped, but also ask for a referral to a cranio facial

specialist to get an evaluation and advice. If you have a cranial

tech nearby I would see them for a free eval too

I just don't know enough about that headshape to be of much help.

Please let us know what you find.

Go to cranial for a free consult then you will know where you stand and have an official diagnosis and numbers. You can bring these to the ped or neurologist to get your script. Good luck and do not blame yourself. It is hard enough with one baby let alone having a toddler. I wish that this never happened to any of us but we do the same things as all the other mothers in the world but our babies heads have their own issues not caused by our care. This would have happened regardless. Tammychristineashok <christineashok@...> wrote: Hi Selena, scaphy is a lot less common than the other shapes.
