Guest guest
I don't believe there is a direct correlation between head circumference and plagio. Both of my children were (and have consistently been) in the 95th percentile or higher for head size. My first-born did not have plagio, but my second did. With my son, I think it had to do mostly with his torticollis, and I honestly believe he just had a softer head than my daughter, which made it even worse. When my daughter was born, she came out with a perfectly round head, but my son's was totally cone shaped. It popped right out soon after, but I just feel, for some reason, that his noggin was a little softer than hers. Just my theory anyway. Guest guest
Our doctor (cranial facial plastic surgeon) said that plagio & brachy are more common in babies with larger heads. The extra weight/growth when they are young and spending more time on their head makes them more prone to plagio. So it isn't exactly a " symptom " of plagio, but there is a relationship. My daughter's head was 50th percentile at birth, but >90th by 6 mo. This worried her doctor, but there was nothing wrong, and then she started tracking at about 95% for height, weight and head. Seems like her head was just a little too small for the rest of her at birth :-) However, I think all that growth the first few months is what caused her brachy (flat in back). I asked her ped about her headshape at 2 mo, but she said " don't worry " so I didn't make an effort to keep her off the back of her head - my mistake for taking her advice. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > My daughter has a larger head circumference, 16.5 inches at 3 months. > Is this a common symptom of plagio, or is this something separate? > I'm new, so thanks for bearing with all of the questions.... > Maggie >
