Guest guest
Hi I've had 3 rounds of taking antidepressants over the last 12 years. First two occasions, it was before I was diagnosed as hypo (although now think that was the basic cause), third time, I had the diagnosis, had been on Armour for a number of months and still not feeling much better. The antidepressant I took did really help - fatigue lifted, brain fog cleared, fragile emotional state improved, sleeping improved (after about a week of taking). I subequently weaned off them after about 6 months, and felt fine. I took what is perceived to be quite an " old fashioned " antidepressant - had a great GP at the time who was concerned about problems with withdrawing from SSRI's (Prozac is an example of an SSRI). I took Dothiepin, it's what's known as a tricyclic antidepressant. There are other tricyclics, and all have slightly different profiles in terms of potential effects and side-effects. This is an area that a GP should really be able to advise on, as they sure deal with antidepressants a lot! One other thing to add about Prozac is that it contains fluoride, which is bad for thyroid function, and best related to with a barge-pole. Whether going this route will suit you or not is a decision only you can take, really... it's complicated! While hypothyroidism is often misdiagnosed as depression, it can also cause true depression (the particular brew of brain chemicals that makes you feel awful physically and emotionally). I think that sometimes taking antidepressants for a while can help kick the brain chemicals out of a bad habit.. it won't solve the basic cause though, if hypoT is the underlying problem, so you need to be addressing that too. Lots of luck whatever your decision, Janet > > >
Guest guest
Hi all I would like to bring pyroluria, undermethylation and over methylation concepts into your attention. here is a site on pyroluria. http://drkaslow.com/html/pyroluria.html I was never tested but I think I have this problem. Was very depressed and started zinc and b6 and omega 6 sometime ago. I feel better. It always works for me. I am also high histamine undermethylated. You may find much info on these if you make a search for under methylation over methylation high histamine low histamine pyroluria Walsh Pfeiffer. I am thinking there is very important info on these. bw Nil Re: Feeling out of sorts - antidepressants Hi I've had 3 rounds of taking antidepressants over the last 12 years.
