Starband vs Cranial Technology

We were all set to go with Cranial Technology. We had the scan done

and signed all the papers and gave them the go ahead. Then I found

out they are not in network. If United Healthcare does not approve

them for out of network our out of pocket cost is $3600. Our

pediatrician had recommended Cranial Technology.

I just found out Starband is in network and even if United Healthcare

does not cover it they will only charge me $2040.

Can anyone give me some feedback on their experiences with either?

It would be much appreciated. I need to make the decision quickly

since Andie is 6 months and hate to start the process all over again.

Thank you!

Kim

I haven't heard of many people having any luck with United

Healthcare covering the band, I believe there's an exclusion that

specifically states they won't cover it. If it's a matter of money,

the StarBand is great band to work with as well. It really matters

what experience the orthotist has. Have you gone to the StarBand

provider for an evaluation? If not, I would highly suggest doing so.

You really should get a feel for who you will be working with and be

confident they will do a good job. I had the choice between CT and a

StarBand ortho and CT was out of network for us but we still got 75%

covered. It would have been 90% with the StarBand. I made my

decision based on my comfort level with the therapist/ortho and was

willing to forfit that extra 15% in coverage. You really just have

to make the right decision for you. Both bands work the same, as

long as the ortho is experienced. Good luck with your decision!

We had a great experience with a starband, but it depends a lot on the

individual ortho. Ours had tons of experience banding. Others aren't

as lucky. With the starband product the ortho may have a lot or

experience or not, and may do many different type of orthotic

products. With CT/Docband the staff is very well trained and does only

banding. So in someways that makes CT a safer bet, but if you do a

little homework, and the starband ortho checks out it could be a good

option for you.

The bands work on the same principles, but the docband is a little

lighter and tends to be adjusted more frequently (just based on what

I've observed here). Starbands are thicker/heavier because they have

thicker foam and tend to cover more of the head.

Where are you located, and which starband facility would you be using?

Thanks for sharing your experience. We are in Dallas, and

considering the Forest Lane Location.
