We personally have been seeing a doctor with Hanger. Since you have appts at both 2 things to consider would be will your insurance cover one and not the other. And how relaxed the doctor makes you feel - does he mind answering all your questions?

Cranial Tech vs. Hanger P & O

My 4 month old daughter, Cate, has been diagnosed with Plagio and we are trying to learn all we can about the condition and treatment. My pediatrician recommended we go with Cranial Tech, but I'm also hearing great things about Hanger P & O. Is anyone familiar with either of these organizations and able to share experiences? We have consultations set up with both next week and need to make a decision quickly. Thanks!

CT only does bands so their expertise is very speific to plagio while Hnager does bands and other types of orthotics... What you want to look for is a very experienced Ortho that will be treating your baby. If you call both places and ask questions about how long they have been treating plagio, how many babies they see a month, a year? Before and after pics. You will get a real sense of the ortho and the care your baby will recieve.

Also, if you pst your location... others may chime in about specific critics of both places.

We live in Charlotte, NC if anyone has had any experiences from this

area. We found out that our insurance will cover if we go with

Hanger, but not with Cranial Tech (CT). The insurance is really only

informational...we will go with the group that will provide the BEST

for our daughter. Some anecdotal information I received suggested

that CT will put your child in multiple bands, whereas Hanger will

only use one (unless treatment continues longer than anticipated).

Any experiences?

Thanks much for all you've shared.

If you look back over the last week there are a slew of messages on

your area (read messages online to see old ones and search).

As for multiple bands, CT feels that the band is most effective for 16

weeks, and after that loses some of its holding ability. Also most

babies outgrow the band by that time. So it limits time in one band to

16 weeks. I think about 15% of babies need multiple bands (at CT).

Hanger (and Star) use thicker foam and can be worn a little longer.

However I don't really think that makes the band " better " . People can

have excellent results from both.

It does depend on the severity of the plagio and age and growth rate

of the baby as to whether more than one band is necessary at CT. It

is a lighter, thinner band and the integrity of the plastic will

only benefit up to 16 weeks, after that, the holding points can

deminish and the band won't really be doing anything. How severe is

your baby's plagio? We are in Raleigh and go to CT in Charlotte, and

I wouldn't have it any other way. They are great at what they do and

we chose to bypass a StarBand in Raleigh to go with CT even though

they were out of network and there was a chance our insurance

wouldn't cover very much of the cost.

Good luck with your decision and please keep us posted!

I had a very good experience with Hanger for my son with moderate to severe plagio. BCBS covered it 100%. Be sure start the precertification process.
