From what I understand, facial asymmetry can get more noticeable with age. My son had some facial asymmetry problems before he got his DOC band. His ears weren't even and his eyes weren't either. While it wasn't noticeable to a stranger, I was told that as he got older he would get noticeable and he would also run the risk of having jaw and sinus problems.

If it is something that you can fix while they are a baby, I say go for it. A lot of the time a child isn't in a band for more than 16 weeks. (of course this can vary case by case).

Best of luck and follow your gut. Let us know how things go

[sPAM] Facial asymmetry and helmet?

Hi all,My son (almost 8 months) has torticollis and plagiocephaly which we have been aggressively repositioning to treat since 4 months of age. I had him evaluated by an orthotist -- his cranial vault was almost totally symmetrical, however he has upper facial asymmetry of 4.4 mm (the distance between the nasal bridge and the ear on one side is 4.4 mm shorter). The orthotist said he didn't think a band was necessary, but I want to hear what others think. He also said he would band if I "really wanted it." I can tell a difference but my husband says that it is not a big deal (strangers don't notice it). Will this get more noticeable as he gets older? Thanks so much for your input,Joyce
