Guest guest
Jen, I totally respect your opinion and I think that it is wonderful that you had so much success with repositioning. I can tell that you are truly a dedicated mother. I too did repositioning from 2 to 6.5 months and I did see good results but not as good as I would have hoped. My son measured 15mm asymmetry and I decided to get the band because he also has some facial asymmetry. He's been in his DOCband 3 weeks. I do have to say however that from my experience, casting wasn't tramatizing in the least. They place a stocking over my son's head and cut a little whole for the nose and mouth. My son could see me the entire time through the stocking. I gave him his pacifier and he just sat there sucking away. The only time he got frustrated was when my mom had to hold down his arms so he wouldn't touch the casting. He yelled at us (you know the complaining yell) 2 times but never cried. It doesn't hurt the babies at all and it is over in a few minutes. Once the cast was off, he was smiling as if nothing had even happened to him. I have to admit, I thought it was going to be a lot worse but it really was no big deal. I will have no problem doing the exit cast when he is done and I'm sure my son will get frustrated with us again when we hold him in place but it wouldn't be the first time he gets mad at me for some reason. Bottom line, if anyone out there is nervous about the casting process, I wouldn't worry too much, it isn't that bad. Every child is different and handles different situations differently but my experience was really no big deal. I wouldn't let it deter you from getting the band. Good luck to everyone out there. There were days when I was so tired from watching her head all night, that I wanted to just band her, but I knew that it would be traumatic for her. Just like you, I had her re-measured as we went along, because if it wasn't working and I had to band her, then I would have. I'm finally in a comfortable place, knowing that she is doing so well. I can barely notice her plagio now, I see a ton of improvement. I'm so excited for next month's re-measurement. Thanks so much for your kind words, and good luck with your appt. Guest guest
That is true. I was having a serious issues with putting my child through the casting procedure. I would have done it if I had to. However, he had the 3D imaging taken of his head. They put the stocking on his head and he did just great. I pretended like he was a super hero and started flying him around in the air to make it fun for him. After a few minutes he was talking and playing. Of course eventually he was trying to eat the stocking but it turned out really well. He gets his band on April 17th. I'm still a bit bummed that he has to wear a band but I know it's the best decision for him. The doctors told us too that his head would round out but my husband and I just couldn't take that chance. Kids are cruel and I wanted to prevent any possible heartache for him in the future. Not to mention the possible health risks from plagio. Good luck and God bless! Guest guest
Glad to hear they had the 3D imaging where you went. At the Cranial Technologies in NJ, they haven't gotten the 3D imaging machine yet so they still do the casting manually with the plaster of paris.
