Guest guest
This message is very significant regarding the long term outcome of Lap Banding, and the verifies the important role that each patient plays in determining the outcome of using the Band. I talk about "commitment to change", and you have demonstrated the result of recidivism in food choices. The fact that the Band still provides limits in volume consumed is a good thing. I am interested whether you have had an adjustment in Band volume recently to try to assist in providing a greater sensation of fullness again? How much volume is in your Band right now? (As you see I have sent this to my own Band group as well. That is how important I think this contribution has been. Thanks Esther.) Doc Fisher USA From: Esther I can see that there has been a little debate about the amounts we eat and the lack of weight loss. For the past 2 years, since I had my 2nd band put in I have not lost an ounce. Today I went to see Dixon and I moaned (again) as I am now 4 kgs heavier than when I had my last op. This depresses the hell out of me. I have even gone back to the pre band days and taken all sorts of drugs to try to help me. All to no avail. However, we did discuss the different things I do now compared to the days when I was newly banded. And guess what........................... my habits have reverted back to the old habits. Yeah sure I watch everything as it goes into my mouth, the vegetables, the soups, the breads, the salads, the biscuits, the lollies, the champagne and need I go on. I do not consume nearly the same amounts as I used to, but nevertheless I consume them anyway. When first banded I would have rather slit my wrists than put something in my mouth that I shouldn't. Of course the band gave me the feeling of being satisfied back then, something which I have not felt for approx. 3 years, but the foods I ate were all the right ones. I don't know if I will ever lose the last 20 kgs that I want to lose - maybe I wont. But I do know that I will work very hard toward not putting it all back on again. In October I have an appointment to see a plastic surgeon to have a sun spot on my eyebrow looked at and I think I will have a talk to him about chopping the extra fat off my stomach. Who knows, this may be my next step. The road has been very long and very hard but all in all it has still been worth it. I am still 33 kgs lighter than I was 4 1/2 years ago and that is a good thing. As others have said, we must not lose sight of the fact that this is a tool that will help us lose weight, but the hard work is still up to the individual. The band is not a magic tool. Guest guest
Esther, We have exactly same problem. Got up to 2ml in the tank just before I went to Perth for 3 weeks, lasted 4 days & had to go see Tony Kierath over there & have 1.5 taken out. Got back to Queensland & have once again started the SLOW journey back up again. Had .05ml put in first then another .05ml in last Friday. So I am travelling with 1.5ml in the tank AGAIN & will try & make it work for me as the other .05ml won't even let water down also! After 3 years & still with 20 or 30kgs to go I really should start trying harder to excercise huh? hehe! Take care on your optimum journey & good luck.
