Guest guest
My daughter was four months old when they told me she has plagiocephaly, five weeks has passed and I see no change. We have her sitting, tummy time, and we have her sleeping on her side. What more should I do? I am tempted to push her pediatrician to give us a referral for a specialist. I rather not wait, I read somewhere after a certain amount the treatments are less effective. Anyone have a doctor they used in the San Francisco area??? Guest guest
Push, push, push. My daughter was diagnosed at 4 mo and in a band at 5 mo and I'm so glad we went ahead with it. We had Kaiser insurance (we were in Redwood City) and saw Dr Menard at the Santa Clara facility (we got a referral from our ped). We got my daughter's band at CIRS in Palo Alto. They also have an office in Oakland. I would say treatment is very effective the first year, and can be less so after that. However, the head grows fastest while the baby is young, so starting early means less time in a band. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > My daughter was four months old when they told me she has > plagiocephaly, five weeks has passed and I see no change. Guest guest
I agree, you should push until you get the answers you want. I kept asking our doctors about my son's head and they kept telling me it would be fine, so I let it go for a year, before making the final push to get him banded. I wish I would have pushed harder earlier, we would already be done with the treatment and he would have a close to perfect round head. Good luck with everything! Guest guest
My doctor wanted us to wait until 6 months, then 9 months. After 6 months, I went to CT and had CT send my ped. the results. Then I called my ped. to tell him that CT would be faxing over evaluation results and that I wanted to band. He wrote the script that day. Depending on your pediatrician, you could do what I did or get the script so if CT (or wherever) recommends banding you can start ASAP. My doctor did explain that sometimes if you helmet too early insurance companies won't cover it (and I've heard that from other moms too). I think if he knew insurance would have covered it earlier (like 4 months) then he would have sent us then. However, we did see CT at 3 months because my 22 month old prefered his left side and they told us that if we were going to band to come back by 5 months and not to wait a year. CT said that it best to band between 4-6 months when the head is growing the fastest. > > > > My daughter was four months old when they told me she has > > plagiocephaly, five weeks has passed and I see no change.
