Your doctor doesn't sound that great. Unless he's much better with

everything else I would seriously consider changing doctors. He

should at least address your concerns clearly. Unfortunately many

doctors do not take plagio seriously and often recommend waiting for

it to correct itself. It may or many not, partially depending on

severity and sometime unresolved tort. I have never heard anything to

suggest that 95% of plagio fixes itself and I think your doctor is

just winging it.

If you are seeing results with repo, you do have some time. I would

take pics every week and see if you're continuing to make progress.

Also I would look for a band friendly doctor to see in your area. If

you are near a cranial technologies office (www.cranialtech.com) they

will do a free assessment for you. Some other band providers will as

well. This may give you more data to work with so you can decide how

aggressively you need to look for a new doctor.

Actually, my biggest concern is not that he brushed off the plagio

(because I've come to learn that that's pretty standard amongst

peds), but that he is brushing off the tort without any real

assessment from an actual pediatric physical therapist. Our ped took

a look at my son, diagnosed him with tort, and then gave me the

phone number of the PT to set up an appointment, which I did for 2

days later. I would not have felt comfortable doing any exercises

without someone who knew what they were doing advising me on the

proper techniques. In one aspect, if you don't know to force the

stretch all the way, then you're not really doing enough to help.

Conversely, if you do it completely wrong, I would be worried about

hurting the baby worse.

My ped was also quick to refer us to a neurosurgeon to check out my

son's head shape (and rule out cranio), but then once we got the all-

clear, we started hearing that it would round itself out on it's

own. I've NEVER heard 95% of plagio babies self-correct. That's

really stretching it. I've done a lot of research on the subject and

from what I've heard, no studies have been done because they can't

get a control group (babies who would be tested for self-correction)

because they can't find parents who are willing to bypass the band

and go with the " wait and see " approach.

So my first suggestion is to go to a physical therapist and get an

assessment. I'm not sure if you need a referral (based on your

insurance), but we didn't and for us it was just a $15 co-pay for

each visit (we went once a week for about 5 weeks, then every other

week). It will be hard for the plagio to improve if the tort isn't

taken care of first.

Good luck!

My husband said we are now switching Doc's, this isn't the 1st time

we've gotten brushed off by him, time for a 2nd opinion....

I hate when a Doc throws out a " made Up " statistic like 95% of

plagio cases fix themselves, just another example of him not taking

the proper time with Kaylie & my husband finally got fed up with it.

Thanks for the great info. We are now searching for other

resources, but in our area I am coming up short, no cranial tech,

etc.. I definetly want a 2nd opinion.

I am in Indiana, close to Indianapolis. One of the gals on here used

AOI for her helmet, but i am not sure if a Doc would need to refer us

there 1st?
