Can stress be the SOLE cause of RT3?

I was doing very well on NTH when I got to my optimised dose in August 2009. I

stopped feeling cold ALL THE TIME, I lost loads of weight (only had 10 lbs left

to get to my pre hypo weight :(), my energy was good and I generally felt

euthyroid. The only fly in the ointment was that my temps never came up to 98.6;

my average daily temp was 98.0. However, since I was symptom free I was fine.

Then, I encountered a tremendous amount of stress from January 2010 onwards with

my mentally ill sister, work stress and an ill mother. From January onwards I

did not feel well; was cold all the time, regained some of my lost weight (: and

felt like I was vacillating between hyper and hypo constantly. Finally, in March

I got RT3 tests done and the results were bad. I had high frees, high RT3 and a

TERRIBLE ratio of 10.82.

I have read around the causes of high RT3, but I don't seem to have them. I do

not have low ferritin, low B12, low adrenals etc. The only significant change

has been MASSIVE STRESS.

What do you think? Can stress ALONE cause RT3?

Thanks!

If stress causes RT3 then should everyone just take T3 since we don't need T4

anyway? Because many people can experience massive stress at different times of

their lives. Especially in this economy. Seems that being on T3 forevr would

prevent that problem from happening during stressful events.

I have been on 30HC since Decemeber 2008; so I could not have had low cortisol.

Any other mechanism by which stress could cause high RT3?

Thanks!

Many things can cause RT3. Dieting wiht too low calories or low carb,

glucose dysregulation, beta blockers for BP, an illness h3ich causes

high cortisol. Low ferritin, and probably many other things we dont even

knwo about.

" Supposedly RT3 caused by stress is a temporary thing, and when the

stress leaves and cortils returns to normal so do the conversions. "

So if RT3 was caused by a very low carb diet would simply eating more carbs

cause the RT3 go away? If that in fact was the cause?
