Thanks, Margery. That's a great STTM link; I don't recall reading it before. The thought I had was simply because I have about 1500 tablets of T3 on hand.

Another question: are Erfa and Naturethroid the same, i.e. both basic natural dessicated thyroid? Is there any reason to prefer one over the other? You mention decreasing cynomel and increasing Erfa, but I'm not on Erfa and don't know anything about it. I didn't realize people took both at the same time. I thought it was either T3 or dessicated thyroid--one or the other, not both. Thanks for your help.

Re: Synthroid question / not ideal

Yes, it can be done, but if it was me, I've felt too crappy for too long to waste a single day on Synthroid, even if I could limp along on it (plus cynomel) OK for a while. If I wanted to change my T3/T4 proportions I'd decrease cynomel and increase ERFA."BOTTOM LINE: yes, you can use the synthetic T3 and synthetic T4, get some benefit, even if less effective."fromhttp://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/vegetarian/This was written in response to folks who wish to avoid NT because they are avoiding animal products, but it seems relevant to your situation.>> Is there a problem with Synthroid other than the fact that it's T4 only? If my doctor decides that, based on my labs, I'm ready to add T4, would Synthroid be appropriate? I know lots of people take Erfa, Naturethroid, etc. But I have a 90 day supply of T3 on hand, shipped recently by mailorder insurance pharmacy. Would taking Synthroid plus my supply of T3 give good results? Or is Synthroid just bad, period?> > Peggy>
